I was searching this forum about obtaining a warranty from Best Buys for a non-Best Buys camera. I bought one online and was wondering if I could get the extended warranty from BB? The thread started April 25th kind of dies off without much closure. My question is has anyone had luck with this? I went to my local BB and spoke with the camera person, I know the info I got was just what she thought and not exactly store policy but I had to ask..she said no they wouldn't sell me one.

Hints? Ideas? Does Canon sell an extended warranty?

Bill:

I bought my Canon G2 camera on Pictureline.com in April 2002. I read numerous threads as you noted below, regarding Best Buys warranty offer, even if you had not purchased this camera at their store. I spoke with my local BB store in Atlanta, GA regarding this policy, and the manager of the store assured me it was okay to purchase the warranty, because the stores do sell the same Canon model camera. So I promptly paid my $59 for their four (4) year service plan.

Now its three months later, and I have a warranty issue with my G2. So I go into the same BB store and ask about using their extended warranty I purchased for my camera. A different store manager looks at my issue (the LCD lens has developed numerous "scratches", not from abuse, but possibly from cleaning with the mircofiber cloth I've been using.........?). The new store manager tells me that this is not a warranty issue, and therefore I must contact Best Buys Corp. Center or Canon to discuss further.

So I call Best Buy's 1-800-332-4800 customer service, and hear that Corp. does not know about this offer at their local store level. At least by the rep. and his manager that I spoke too. They tell me to call Canon's Service Center for advise.

I have since spoke to Canon and have per their request sent the camera in for inspection, to determine if my problem is, or is not a warranty item.

Regarding Best Buys policy as noted above, I found that most of the personnel that I spoke with at their stores, do not know of this offer that I'am sure thousands have taken advantage of as I did.

Since I purchased the "black" body G2 camera, and BB does not sell it in the Atlanta area, I will probably return my unused warranty for credit due to the above.

Thanks for the reply. I will just stick to my 1 year warranty and just hope nothing happens to it...fingers crossed! BB has never really impressed me much as far as cust serv goes, especially in Atlanta (Northlake) but they do have good prices and selection sometimes.. we have a love/hate relationship. If anything was closer I'd go there instead, this just goes to show how little they have it 'together'
