Hi eveyone,

I have notice my pictures have noise in the dark area of the picture even during a day shot, i shoot picture mostly with iso200 and the noise gets worst in indoor low light situation. So what is ur settings for noise reduction and noise filter?

My settings are:
Auto ISO 200-800
NR OFF
Filter: Low
Gradation Normal
Shading comp. OFF

FWIW my tests shooting raw and jpg separately show that NR ON actually ADDS noise to both the raw and jpg files. It also significantly slows down the camera's shot to shot performance. Filter at Low/Medium/High smoothens images in jpgs but has no effect on raw files.

hi dualmax,

i have Noise Filter set to Low (instead of default Standard) to keep details and not have it soft looking. i leave sharpness set at 0, though setting it to -1 and later applying sharpening may be a better option, but then that means more post processing.

try Wrotniak's Olympus E-620 test shots to get an idea of how noise filter and sharpness affect noise artifacts. " http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/43/e620-fs.html " the E-620 is a similar sensor to the E-P series cameras, though there may be slight JPEG engine/AA filter differences so you'll have to do your own tests for what suits your tastes. but Wrotniak's test matrix comes in pretty handy. i did my own generic tests playing with sharpness and noise reduction and to my eyes it transposed to the E-PL1 settings. old thread " http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1041&message=34913834 "

if shooting JPEG, i would leave the auto-gradation in its default setting, and leave Noise Reduction as default also (i believe the latter deals with long exposure NR - it kicks on in very slow shutter speeds automatically). but if shooting RAW, maybe lebob's suggestions come in handy with turning auto-gradation off if willing to do post processing.
