for new equipment, does that price include "value added" tax. I ask because right now they have an announcement for a new Sigma wide angle and it's priced at 799.00 euros. That’s over a $1000.00, seems very high.--

Traditionally retail items in the EU are advertised with VAT included, trade items will normally be priced as €XX + VAT.

As for expensive - welcome to our world. Although as the prices (with the exception of the 50-500) haven't been officially released yet, it is probably speculative.

Park Cameras were showing the 85mm f1.4 as £10,000 on a Google search for example!! (and yes that was probably a site test that got cached! :) )

Ouch, it get's even worse Alvin: the price DPReview is quoting is not 799 Euros, but 799 UK pounds, which is over 900 Euros / 1200$ US!

Thank you, but you didn't answer the question.

yes, but the two posters before did

VAT is part of the price

Unlike Canon gear, my experience has been that Sigma prices are pretty similar UK to US once you allow for the 17.5% VAT here. However, they often fall below list price in both places, so the announce price may be a little high compared to what you'll actually pay.

US price? So the dpreview price of 799 doesn't include the VAT. That price times the current exchange rate for UK pounds would be about $1200.00 That price, 799, minus the 17.5 vat would, be $659. Help!
