windows7 + kodak software = problems

Interestingly, as an experiment, I have just installed Photo Desk onto a 2002 vintage Dell laptop with only 768Mb RAM, nVidia graphics card and Windows 7 Home Premium installed, and lo and behold it works flawlessly in both Faster and Better modes.

As I've got Windows 7 Professional installed on my so called problem machine with 2GB RAM and ATI Graphics card, I am reaching the opinion that it isn't a Windows issue, but a graphics card/drivers issue. Though why it should work when opened in XP Virtual Mode, I cannot fathom.
It occurred to me that perhaps one reason that Photo Desk works on my computer is that I have Fast Picture Viewer installed. This is a Codec Pack that allows viewing of RAW files in Windows Explorer. This might have an indirect effect on the Kodak program. If you want to try it it is available at: http://www.fastpictureviewer.com/codecs/

I've just gone through an upgrade to my HP xw6400 workstation, moving from 32-bit XP pro to 64-bit Windows 7 pro. Photo Desk seems to operate normally in 64-bit mode and both faster and better versions, with viewing at 25%, 50%, 100%, and 200% and zooming in and out easily. My graphics card is the original nVidia Quadro NVS 285 with 128mb. However, I have not been able to get Camera Manager working, which I have typically used for downloading SLR/n images, so I guess it's time for a card reader.

The PRO version seems to bee the key when it comes to 64 bit Windows 7. It has a built in XP emulation.

The reason that Camera Manager doesn't work is that they re-designed drivers for Windows 7 and with Kodak out of the software business, there is no updated driver available.

Maybe one of the original development team members still visits the forum and could run the driver specs through the new SDK for all us - on a totally non-supported basis of course.
