Hi All

I notice it's been 3 days since we've heard from Marti. Meanness has correctly expressed concern. We know that Marti has had some health crises and that he pushes himself to be as active as he is. All credit to him. If he's OK .. PHEW. If not, or someone close to him is not, then our concern and best wishes go to him.

Jill: for the sake of smoothness, as 'Previous Host', please will you 'stand by for action' ... and be ready to host the next challenge. If you are unable to do this, may I offer an alternative: The Person Who Came Second. That would be Rich, if he is willing.

It's been two days since Julia closed the last challenge. May I propose we hang on for another NINE hours ... in order to give Europe time to get beyond mid-day, America time to wake up, and South Africa enough time to get something started before bed time?

9 hours from now, [07:15 GMT] Jill or Rich starts Mini Challenge 184

How does this sound?

Regards
Glyn

hand the job to you....I know it will be in good hands, and if you are not able to then I shall willingly take over the position.

I do feel that Glyn & Meaness are correct in wondering where Marti is, after all Julia did send an email...so hopefully someone will check that.

My concern is that this drag between starting a new challenge just pulls down the whole momentum that we work so hard to maintain...so I feel it is each and everyones responsibility that if you enter a challenge then you must also keep check as to when it ends and respond accordingly.

Just my thoughts, prehaps others think differently.

Many thanks, & I shall monitor the response.

Cheers,
Jill

We already have made provision for the previous host to take over when the current host "disappears" during the competition.

I am proposing that we add to the rules something like this: in case the first place winner does not respond and setup the next challenge within ..... (hours/days), the second place winner will become the new host (and so on, if the second place winner doesn't respond, the third place winner becomes the new host).

This way, it would be spelled out what to do in case of "disappearing" new hosts and it would be understood that the next place winner automaticallly takes over. This would eliminate asking the second place winner if they would take over - it would be part of the challenge for them to assume the position of host.

What do you think of this?

Works for me. Now we just need a time frame that is reasonable. It is not pleasant for the current host to be put under stress should the winner not respond. if you enter, you could win, therefore every entrant (excluding Exhibition) should know when the challenge ends & be ready to check. I do hope Marti is ok.

Regards.
Ernest.

Thank you very much for your comments. I was wondering what to do. Kind Regards
Julia

I looked again at Marti's profile, and the email address is no longer available. Even though I do have it in my sent email, it may not be appropriate to keep contacting him if he has changed his profile. Do folks wish to proceed with Glyn's proposal?

Kind Regards
Julia

I have also been keeping all the threads attached to the challenge, so that they can be found amidst the assortment of the forum, in case Marti returns to the original challenge page, that could be one of the new rules as well, so navigation is easier.

Kind Regards
Julia

As Jill was saying above, to propose to Rich, and Glynn was saying to wait another 9 hours. so...I will mention this thread to Rich and let you'se know.

Kind Regards
Jluia

Oops Rich has not posted a message for four days, and his email is not open to the public, so I cannot email him at all.

Maybe another rule should be to open up the email to be viewed in public or place an alternate email in the profile comments if one enters the challenge so they can be contacted.

Can someone suggest a time frame to contact the next person. Do folks wish to ask Jerry Curtis who came in third, or go with Jill's kind offer to step in if Rich cannot be contacted.

Kind Regards
Julia

I think I did find an email for Rich (Harry Cannoli) so popped a note off for Rich, and also emailed Marti to reply to this thread as well.

Kind Regards
Julia

I have taken hold of the reigns and shall be posting very shortly...have been at another commitment this afternoon so could not start before now. Please do not worry to contact any further people I will be handling this challenge.

Many thanks,
Jill

I think the former host rule was more intended to cover a situation where the new host became incapacitated during the challenge (after starting it). It makes more sense to me to go down the line to second, and, if necessary third place finishers when a first place finisher doesn't start a new challenge at all. I would suggest a time frame of 72 hours???

In the meantime, I support Jill's initiative to start a new challenge for this instance.

Hi

I modified the 'rules blurb' to include the result of Danielle's proposal, which has been seconded by two others and is also supported by me. Do others explicitly add their agreement to this?

If we can deem Danielle's proposal as carried, then two things need to be sorted:

Firstly, the maximum acceptable delay. Options so far: Jerry says three days. I prefer a much shorter ... as little as 36 hours. My reasoning is that people can be Expected to Know to Check on time in the first place. If they are just 'dawdling'-dragging their heels, there is absolutely no call to be patient as they sabotage the flow. There is no excuse. If they have a 'serious unexpected' which prevents them from either hosting or even informing us that they are impeded ... I will presume they will be entirely happy that we are not, by paralyzing the process, adding Further burden on them. Having read what I just wrote, I'd go as far as to stipulate 'Next challenge within 15 hours or 'winner's acknowledgement note with info when to expect next challenge', or hosting gets deferred to second place holder.

Secondly, the revised guidelines-blurb: I have worked on it to make something which will suffice or be basis for amendment and further improving.

Here follows the proposed modified 'Guideline Blurb':

The Mini Challenges are meant to be very informal & encourage participation by having few rules.
In keeping with that spirit, here are the guidelines for the Mini Challenge:

1. You may enter up to 3 photos.

2. Photos may be shot with any camera and may be taken at any time.

3. The winner of a mini challenge chooses the next challenge and selects the winner, who takes the baton and carries on with it.

4. If you enter, you could win, therefore every entrant (excluding Exhibition) should know when the challenge ends & be ready to check.

5. Please post your entries by replying to this original post – rather than under someone else’s post - and change the subject line to “My entry” or “Entry #1 or something like that to separate your picture posts from comments that someone may make about your post.

6. In the spirit of the previous challenge, I too, would like to nominate the previous host, > , take over my role in the event of something happening to me.

7. If, after xx hours of results being announced, the winner fails to turn up to claim their prize and begin hosting the next challenge, then the honour of hosting shall be given to the second-place winner, if present. If not, then it shall go to the third place winner.

8. The challenge will end on at x o’clock . I will announce the winners within 24 hours of the ending.

9. I hope to have plenty of entries to judge, as well as I hope the participants will also comment on their fellow contestants.

I am feeling really bad. I thought all was OK, but now I realise that it really wasn't. I did check the challenge many many times but the results were not posted in the challenge, and I looked at the forum titles, but the results had an abbreviated title, the abbreviation of which I did not connect to the challenge when scanning through the forum entries.

I'm pretty sure I had been in the habit of posting the link to the results thread in the main challenge thread. If not, I think this is something every host should do in the future. It would make it easier to check for results, since everyone would have already posted to the thread and it would show up in our list of active threads. That way, everyone wouldn't have to go looking through all the posts to find the results thread.

Revised to indlude, in point 4: To facilitate this, each host should post, at the end of the original challenge thread, a link to the results thread.
