--A series done with the 40D yesterday at Eastern State, a remarkable crumbling prison in downtown Philadelphia. Part of the "Obscura Day" behind the scenes tours held all over yesterday, March 20.

They say there are and hold a very successful Halloween "haunted prison." I found the place very spooky and certainly would have expected a poltergeist at any minute, if I belived in them

I'd like to go back and shoot it again, as well. I live closeby in Pennsauken, NJ. Seeing the number of people who were there for the public tours, however, I would say getting a private tour (15 people or more) is the way to do it.

The admission is $12 (parking nearby is $13) and there is season long tripod/monopod pass of $10. They are very accomodating and would most likely put together a photo tour of closed areas easily as they did for the Obscura Day group.

Hey Jim,

I live over in the Manayunk area. I would also love to go back and shoot there. If you ever get a photo group together please send me an email. I'd love to be a part of it.

I think we need 15. I will call.

I just spoke to the people at Eastern and its pretty expensive. Apparently they did a favor for the Obscura folks and just charged the normal entry. In essence the fee is $25 per hour per photographer up to 5 people. After 5 the same fees apply but
you need a $1,000,000 insurance policy -- not expensive but....

After reviewing their website, I think there is some confusion. It looks to ME that the 25$ hour is a fee to use their premises professionally, including using models and props for PRIVATE shoots. We're not there to do that. I think you can go with as many people as you like as long as you act normal and don't block the walkways. Here's their photo info: http://www.easternstate.org/visit/options.php

I think we can go for the normal rate.

Agreed, we can go for the normal rate but you then can't visit any of the normally closed areas where i got the pix. Still might be fun and might be some great pix but, depending on when we went and how crowded it might be. A weekday in April would be best, before vacations begin and avoiding weekend visitors.
