Hi !

I just got my first Panasonic - DMC-ZS7 - and I just love it ! It complements my Nikon D90.

However I'm using a Mac and Panasonic does not offer any application (at least, not on the disk I had). I have Paralells, but it's a pain to fire up Windows only to view the landmark information.

My goal would be to use the Landmark information as tags in iPhoto or Aperture. None of them can view this information. I tried Exif Viewer, no luck there either. I tried with reveal 1.2, no luck again. Bridge CS4 also cannot display the information for the location. Any other GPS info is visible, though. Also tried with Preview. And finally, I tried EXIFTOOL. I couldn't believe it but it too couldn't show me the information.

Then I opened the file with the command line editor (VI) just to see, and sure enough, Canada is there (along with the location the pictures were shot). So I know it's recorded. Only it does not seem to be visible to any EXIF viewer I can find.

Do you have any suggestion for a tool that would help me extract this information ? Or is there a way with PhotoFunStudio HD 5 to make these elements part of the standard EXIF or Keywords IPTC information ?

Thanks for any help !

in OS/X, you can use the Preview app to view .jpg (and RAWs).

To see the infos about a pic, you use Command-I. And click on the tabs of the pop-up window to see the EXIF data.

Hi Ray,

Too bad I just released a new version Exiftool before reading this thread, so this feature will have to wait until the next release. If you can tell me the headings for the location information displayed by the Panasonic utility it would be useful.

I've been looking at various ZS7 JPEG samples. It seems that the headings should be something like: Country, State, City, Landmark.

I've also looked at a video sample (.MTS), but surprisingly it seems that Panasonic doesn't store GPS information in their videos like Sony does. Can anyone confirm this?

Tried it with a couple of my own pictures and it does not show the information. The fields are there, in the list, but they're empty. I can see the information in VI, but in Exiftool, the fields (where the information should) are empty.

Let me know if there's a place I could send you my test picture.

Thanks !

Ray
