birds from Hokkaido, 1Dmk4

(n/t)

Several hundred of these winter right behind my apartment... seeing them "fly" overhead in massive squawking formations is really quite something. Have to wash the car a lot though...

really nice, thanks for sharing

Wow, impressive set. #1, #2 specially nice.
Hokkaido is a place I want to visit.

In the meanwhile, thanks for sharing these :-).

Regards

I understand that this lens cannot be stellar, but these photos are unpleasantly soft.

Few are so soft that they seem wrongly focused. Next to the last photo is completely off.

That is my impression too. Not very sharp

hi how can you see from such small size?
are you a wizard :-) ?

too me the photos look good, and sometimes sharpness its not all, composition and the right moment are more important

Nice birds + compositions etc. But when posted to equipment forum one has to think equipment-wise: technically not so good pics. Soft and some OOF. I guess the main reason is the lens...hopefully...and not the MK4 AF...

Unfortunatelly, to see them you need to click 22 times on them, twice on each one...
i know, and you with a photo of 1600 pixel can see sharpness? :-) wow i think you must work for getty , if you can choice or discard images from a thumb ;-)

Sharp picture resized do 1600 pixels must be razor sharp. I see no sharpness, I see just blurr. And if they are soft this small, original files must be really poor.
Different ways of resizing. And how do we know if the OP resharpened the photos after resizing? We don't. Don't assume.

I disagree. While it is true that composition, lighting and exposure all contribute to the photo, in most cases it is IMPERATIVE that the subject be sharply focused when the subject is wildlife...at least that's my opinion.

Thanks guys for your kind remarks.

I must apologize for having forgotten to sharpen, push the contrast and saturation for the "web critique", and have posted unpleasantly soft images and wasted these experts their precious time.

Actually these shots were posted because I found them funny and interesting and would like to share them with other bird lovers and photographers and not to showcase my technique (which I've none - this is only my second wildlife outing, usually I shoot landscape and macro) nor my equipment.

I hope this one is sharp enough for you "experts"

The compositions are great, and the captures are detailed enough. I think the OP opted to present these with subdued sharpness), which is his prerogative (most viewers in the net seem to prefer unnaturally sharp feather detail. I downloaded a few and applied some USM and the details popped out. The easy part is to PP these to one's taste, but the more difficult part is to capture such spectacular images in the first place.

Big congrats on these great bird images!

Did you take these images in a park?

The first image reminds me of a Chinese/Japanese painting.

Thanks for sharing.
