Hi,

I know this may be related to the PC talk forum, but since it only relates to Nikon Transfer I decided to ask here.

Anyway - I just upgraded my computer and installed Windows 7 64 bit on it. I downloaded an installed the latest Nikon Transfer on it and I see a very strange phenomenon - I cannot choose the destination folder! No matter what I choose, it keeps on sending my pictures to C:\Users\XXX\My Pictures\Nikon transfer...

Anyone here had the same problem? How did you fix it?

Hi,

I use Nikon transfert 1.5.1 (which I think is the latset version) regularly on my computer with Windows 7, 64 bits edtion and I have no problem choosing the destination folder.

The destination folder is set with the third tab, when you open Nikon transfer (In french, it is "Destination princpale". I suppose it must be something like "Principal destination" in english). You choose the folder there, before begining the transfer and it should work fine.

I think this should not matter, but do you use it on an account with adminstrator privilege on Windows 7?

I hope this can help.

Have a good day.

I tried this a few times. I choose the browse option, choose a different directory - and when I press OK to get back to the main window - the selection is ignored.

I'm running Nikon Transfer Ver. 1.5.3 on my computer under Windows 7 (64-bit) and I'm not having that problem; I can direct the pictures to any of my folders and Transfer than creates a new folder with a name based on the date.

The only problem I have is that every time I run Transsfer I get a window asking me if I want to allow this program from an unknown publisher to run, and that is sort of a royal pita.

Hi again,

very bizarre problem! But when you hit "transfer" do the pictures transfer from your camera to the computer, even if it is in that folder ?

Concerning my second question, do you run it on an adminstrator account in Windows 7 ? From the answer of Brooks P, it might have something to do after all!

Software that are not well designed may try to write information in a folder or in the registry of Windows, that is not permitted if you don't have adminstrator privilege. Maybe that's what Transfer is trying to do when you change the destination folder. Try to run it by clicking on it with the right button of your mouse and choose "run as administrator".

Good luck!

Yes, it does transfer, and yes, I run as administrator. Still - I cannot change the primary destination...

Anyway, I'll live with it if there's no solution, or drop it altogether and do my copy & rename from Capture NX (or IrfanView :-))

Thanks

I'd try deleting the program through the Control Panel and then downloading a fresh copy of the Transfer file. I downloaded a new copy after receiving an Email from Nikon stating that Transfer was now compatable with Windows 7. However the old copy seemed to be working with Windows 7.

I do not have this problem with a new Windows 7 machine that I downloaded and installed transfer on.

Are you trying to save to a folder that has permissions on it? Are you logged in as administrator?

R-Click on "Nikon Transfer" in the Start Menu, and select "Properties"

In the dialog box select the tab "Security"

At the bottom there is a list of Permissions. They should all be "Allow" except the one at the bottom which should be blank.

If they are not - click on the "Edit" button and change the permissions to "Allow"

That works for my version (1.51) on Windows 7 (32 bit)

Everything is allowed except the last entry, Special Permissions. The window that appears is titled “User Account Control” and the message reads “Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?” The file is also marked as “Run this program as an Administer”.

All sounds OK. Just one further point - Win 7 may not allow you to write to a folder within the "Program Files" part of the directory tree, to be safe, make sure the directory you want to write to is included under the "Libraries" folder.

I checked again:
The folder is on my D drive, under the pictures library, and is not read only.

The Nikon Transfer is the latest (1.5.3 for Windows), and is run as administrator.

Still - cannot change folders :-(

I've used Nikon Transfer for a year successfully. Plug the P90 into the Win XP PC and it was set to transfer, delete photos after sending them to D:\Photos. Upon using Dropbox I changed the folder in Nikon Transfer to D:\Dropbox\Photos and this change is showing correctly but the photos continue to be transferred to the original location, even after a reboot. Deleting D:\Photos doesn't help. Even though this folder is not showing now in Nikon Transfer Destination setup and the folder is gone, Nikon Transfer recreates the folder and puts them in D:\Photos.

It's a software problem in Nikon Transfer.
