Is the Tri-Grip Lastolite reflector a good choice?

Hi, I´ven´t worked with it yet, but it is the chioce of the prominent "Joe McNally" who recommend it to his readers in his excellent books "Hot Shoe Diaries" and "The moment it clicks" (both really great) and on his website:

I'm not sure if they have a 58" version but I bought a few of the 32" ones from a seller on eBay last year. They are identical to the Lastolites but much more affordable.

I am interested in purchasing the Lastolite Jumbo 58" Tri Grip Collapsable Triangular Reflector, Silver / White, with Built-in Holder.

Is this a good and useful reflector for the price?

If not, what do you recommend?

I will mostly use it for outdoor portraiture subjects.

This is among the things I do not own, but would seriously consider getting.

Reflectors, in general, are a great idea.

Lastolite make quality products.

And the tri-grip solves the positioning problem, especially if you have a helper.

Hi Ron,

I've got the silver/sunfire (silver and gold stripes) version. The big ones are really large, but easy to handle. The design is great, quite rigid and easy to hold, it's like have a wing :-) I've even used it in a pinch to blow a model's hair around.

They throw a ton of light, check out this video:

Cheers!

I've got the smaller version and have nothing bad to say about it apart from the juicy price tag here in Finland. It's easy to handle and not sloppy as many cheaper versions. The California Sunbounce Sunmover is a great alternative, however not available in the same jumbo size.

I will sooner or later get a Lastolite jumbo (4' 48" 120cm) 1-stop diffuser. [ http://www.lastolite.com/trigrips.php]
