Am I correct assuming the Fuji HS10 is another marketing trick (same as Sony for this matter) claiming 10 fps for people who do not read the small letters...

Canon SX1 IS has a TRUE 4fps
Sony HX1 10fps BUT for 1 s only
Fuji HS10 - Is this 10 fps ... for 1 s?

I have not checked Fuji HS10 specs. Just making a wild assumption of course... But I am sure that having a similar sensor to the Sony, it's the same ... trick...

In short:

Canon SX1 = TRUE 4fps - No "Best Frame Capture Mode" as Fuji calls it (if that means anything)
Fuji HS10 = 7 FRAMES Rafale Mode and "Best Frame Capture Mode"...

Great i will read this again before i go to bed to help me sleep. :D

LOL

Realise it's not a deal breaker.. Just cannot stand marketing tricks..

Fuji HS10 otherwise looks like a very good proposition with plenty of nice functions!! probably dethroning the Canon SX1 IS..

... So your point is ?

How often do you shoot at full fps ? Is this really relevant to your, or others, shooting needs ?

I would think in the past four decades (plus) that I have wanted more than 2-3 fps on (very maybe) one occasion.

I think you have really missed the bigger picture.

Well, consider this - What other megazoom has 24 mm wide, manual zoom, Raw, EVF, tilt LCD and 30 times focal range, and for under $US500.00 ?

No answer ?

I would trade IQ, and versatilty, over fps - Any day.

For many folk, who want to simply enjoy a mega-zoom camera, this is a very viable alternative, with an enormous amount of versatility, and will perform in a myriad of circumstance.

The only real 'paper' question, at the moment, is - Does it have good IQ ?

Seriously, if it doesn't - Abandon the thought, and wait until something that does. If it does - Get in-line, because it will sell, and sell well.

Not only that, it will lead to a whole new generation of cameras.

Sure, as it looks now, it may have some shortcomings, but many of the benefits are there already. They are real, and they make this camera extremely attractive.

Think about it.

Why should P&S users be limited?

Maybe I am a spy or a paparazzi or a sports journalist. Who knows..

Sorry if I am mistaken. But is it not what I say?

10fps ........... for 7 frames (then stopping to write the pics on the card...)

How is that not 10 fps? Do I have to drive for one hour to be travelling at a speed of 100 miles per hour? 10fps sounds better than 7 frames per 0.7s

And no p&s don't have to be limited, but even the SLR cameras have buffer limits. For example the 7D can shoot 8fps in RAW for only about 24 frames. So that is only 3 seconds for a camera that is 3-4x the price of the HS10. The SLR cameras that can shoot 10fps are over $3000 new.

Wow. Relax! I think the OP was going after yet another FujiFilm marketing ploy. I myself though that the HS10 could capture 10 frames "in" one second ... not "per" second
I think you have really missed the bigger picture.
I don't think the OP was going for the big picture ...

Well who knows what the IQ will be like but FujiFim has made the sensor choice so if it can do both ... why should there be a trade off? The difference is that the HS10 most likely writes to internal memory for speed and the other cam chooses to shoot slower but directly to the card ... it could have been an option. Who whould use such an option? well there are several folks here that have done cool things rigging cams to do this.

Well thats not a "paper" question now is it ... that is the meat and potato question. The deal to use the sensor must have involved a release date on images

dreamer ... a lot of money has to be made before they will allow that to happen :-D

Of course its a cool camera ... they all are and they ALL have shortcomings

Canon 500D for instance can shoot TRUE continuous for 170 Jpeg frames.

my s100fs continuous shooting mode become not useful because:

1. it keeps firing as long as you have the shutter pressed, but only the first or last 7 pictures will/can be saved

2. it takes about a minute to have that 7 pictures saved before you can shoot again

3. no AF tracking

While HS10 will have AF tracking (i doubt it will be half as good compared to N/C DSLR models), the other problems are possibly still exist. I wanted to shoot football game with the s100fs, but i end up have to buy a DSLR.

The ability to shoot as many photos as you like with 4fps and fast saving speed is much much more useful than 10fps but 7 pictures only and a 30 second saving speed.
