JPEG files don't compress very well with external compression schemes such as ZIP or StuffIt.

Your best bet is to save the JPEG to a lower resolution and/or with a lower quality factor. For sending images to my parents, for example, I usually resample my camera's 4MP images to 800x600 pixels at a quality of 75%. That keeps each individual file around usually less than 100KB.

Download a free copy at http://www.irfanview.com . You can reduce by specifying either pixel numbers or percent of original. Use 'resample' for the best results.

I am trialling Advanced JPEG Compressor and JPEG Optimizer at the moment(neither one's free but are worth a look) and I also think resizing would be a good idea.

The first program appears very good with the ability to compare images side by side as you test compression levels.I think it could be handy if you are serious about getting the best quality with the smallest file size.
