I just bought a used H3DII-39 outfit for less than half normal retail price. Got it home to find the data cable is a firewire and the Phocus 2 software prefers 64 bit machines. Neither of my PC's have a firewire port so it looks like a new PC is needed. What do most of you use - PC or iMac aand what operating system? What sort of PC specs are required?

A firewire PCI card is not expensive to add to a PC desktop.
Btw, the lastest camera raw reads H3D39 files and so afaik H3DII files.
I have a quadcore, 8GB and the files open very quickly.

You can likely buy and install a firewire (Sometimes called 1394 or 1394b to avoid copyright on the term Firewire) card for your PC for pretty cheap.

If you plan on using Phocus 2, I'd look to have at least 4GB of RAM (the more the better), an ok processor, and a good to very good video card. Phocus 2 pushes a bit of the processing power onto the graphics card so having a better card can speed the program significantly. Also when using an earlier version of Phocus with an older video card (Nvidia 7300GT, maybe?) Phocus had a few glitches (all the images would go blank, live view would freeze up) at the recommendation of Hasselblad we upgraded to a better video card and haven experienced problems since. Hasselblad has been really good on their release notes for software on their website. The release notes say exactly what is needed (including the issue with the video card that we had.) Other than that just make sure you have a huge honkin' hard drive to store your files.

If running windows, try to make sure you have a 64bit version of windows running (if your hardware supports it.) It's not required but Phocus will make better use of what you have under a 64bit OS.

If going to Mac, the low end MacBooks and MacBook Air do not have firewire so you'd have to go to the MacBook Pro, iMac, or MacPro tower. I'm pretty sure even a Mac Mini would work but it may not be the fastest think in the world

Enjoy the new camera, happy shooting!

You can get a PCMCIA Firewire card for about $35 and a PCIExpress Card for about $80 (recommended). Don't even think about using FW800 with a PC. Thanks to SP3, it runs slower than FW400, if you can make it run at all. Instead, use an IEE1394 card with an FW800 to FW400 adapter cable. (Not all FW800 connectors will fit inside the pocket which conceals the Hasselblad FW800 port. Use the one which comes with the camera, or bring the camera to the computer store.)

You need at least 256MB of video memory to use Hasselblad Phocus. Less won't work at all and more is better.

Out-of-the-box FW800 performance. No uninstalling of any trial software, no days wasted trying to get a PCI FW800 card working. If you're a working professional, time is money. Mac Pro has become the workhorse for many photographers.

I've got the same problem, new camera, old computer. My Mac G5 isn't Intel so no Phocus software? My PC has firewire 1394 port but the camera cable doesn't fit. Is there an adapter for this?
