A Few B&W's

I'm really liking that first shot!! Very powerful and effective use of framing.

Roger, your work is always well composed, and a pleasure to view.... I always ask myself when viewing your B&W photos, if I feel cheated because of the lack of color... Mother nature has a beautiful color pallet.. and those rock textures would reveal her pallet, and even though there are so many shades of gray... there are millions of colors .... Dont get me wrong B&W does evoke a certain feeling which color can not define... but I tend to lean toward color....
Thanks for sharing

Bill,

Thanks for the comment. My wife has a strong preference for color and can't understand why I enjoy B&W - and, I don't need a second wife. ;-) Ansel Adams, I believe it was him, said something like: "With color there is color; with black and white there is everything else." I don't totally agree but his point was that B&W can focus on such things as texture, design, shape, etc. which, of course, exist in color but with color in the image are less emphasized. I don't know why I am currently so interested in color. Perhaps it is because of the weather I am not out and about shooting nearly as much and B&W gives me a chance to go back through old shots and try some conversions. B&W is certainly not to some people's taste and, as you point out, there are some lovely colors in a couple of the shots which are lost with the conversion. Thanks again for the comment.

Thanks RR - that 4th is simply stunning. Any chance you want to donate that one to me so I can print and hang it? ;-)

Well, I think it's only you and me who like it and it is one of my all-time favorite B&W images. Strange how tastes can differ so much. I have posted this on two forums, you're the first one who has made a positive statement about it (oh, my wife is my third "forum", oops, first, and she doesn't care for it either ;-)).

Thanks for the comment and feel free to use the image any way you like - but be aware, no one else may like it!
