LP-E4 Sale @ Calumet

I just ordered one - probably should've ordered two - I wonder if this is a mistake???
Kind-of hard to go wrong for 20 bucks. But, I still will probably cancel the order if it doesn't have the six-stage battery indicator. I want to see the status of the charge on every battery I have.

No mistake. It was advertised as a 1 day sale.

Steve
That's right. It's a thing that Calumet does most all the time - their 'One Day Sale'.

Although in general I think their pricing is high the various sales they do are worth watching, sometimes.

Dang. Oh well. I don't have a Mark III or Mark IV, so the batteries wouldn't be much good to me at the moment anyways, but I'm really keen on the Mark IV, despite some initial worries/nervous concerns, so would have been nice to get some "cheap" batteries for when I do get a Mark IV later on this year. Oh well...damn us Aussies for being...behind...oh hang on, we're ahead on the time zone. How'd I miss them!

...you didn't consult a Psycho :)

Could those who ordered, let me know?

Happy New Year

I ordered one yesterday after you told us about it. Then, I started having misgivings as I took a look at the Canon LP-E4's capabilities to provide remaining charge info and remaining life info. It must be "chipped." No indication if the Calumet one does this, and no indication if Canon authorizes the Calumet battery. I'm starting to think about whether or not the Calumet battery would void the Canon warranty, or if it would be more likely to cause an ERR99. Am I paranoid? Of course, everyone's closed today for New Year's Day (Canon support and Calumet), so I can't ask anyone. My e-mail last night to Calumet has so far gone unanswered, and the Calumet Tracking Status is not saying anything about my order. Oh well, $20 isn't going to kill me. :-|

...the Calumet battery and post the results on Tuesday, then you can decide.

...I have used aftermarkets from mydigitaldiscount and they worked perfectly in the camera and charger, then one stopped holding a charge after a month and I returned both.

...and keep you posted :)

Tacksharp:

Calumet offers the Canon and Calumet batteries side-by-side as accessories on their 1DsIII page.

I do not think Calumet would sell a product that voids their customers warantee.

Did you ever test the Calumet battery?

Hi,

It sounds like you have the bargain Calumet battery ... can you tell me/us if the Calumet battery provides the same features as the Canon original (% left, etc) ?

TIA

Dave
I'm about 10 minutes from their Orange County store and they have them in stock, I won't even have to wait for shipping! When I called the store and asked if they had them in stock or if it was just an on-line sale he was amazed at the price, even he didn't know they were selling them so cheap. I already have the Canon replacement and have never needed to use the spare but for $20 I just can't pass it up.

Thanks for the heads up.

...YES, I tested the battery and found the in camera data to be exactly the same as the OEM battery.
...the fit is a little bit tighter, but that change with time.
...they were worth the price.

Great news! I just received my bargain one today at the same time as my 1D Mark IV arrived. I charged my two Canon batteries. But, I haven't charged or used the Calumet one yet. Wow, that $19.99 was a real bargain. I paid $114 for the spare Canon one.

I got an email saying they are backordered and it would be about 2 weeks. I suppose they got bombarded after it was posted on a couple forums. Good news that they are decent batteries. I'm amazed at how many shots I can get off a Canon one.

I took 272 high ISO shots today, and the [Canon] battery indicator never came off full...and it was literally cold as ice during most of the shots. I get the impression it will outlast a 32 GB CF card even in cold weather. I may get the chance to find that out.

THX for the reply. NO WORRIES, but I cancelled my CALUMET order (for TWO batts) on Wed (before any responses on full compat) and ordered the "safer" Canon version. After using my new 1D4 all week, I'm only down to 65% after 500 actuations (with lots of AI Servo), a few short videos and playbacks; so I think ONE extra battery will be quite sufficient for my needs (a serious amateur) - at least for the near-term.

Tack, glad to hear it finally arrived after an agonizing wait of almost 3 months.

Now that you've got the best camera for the job your new obsession will be acquiring pro glass to get the most out of it. Unfortunately there's no cure :)

got mine this morning... fully charged it...

and works great!!!

a little tight on the charger but nothing really serious... battery indicator works (on the camera and charger status)...

so far so good... let's see after two - three days of use...

but for $20.00 this is an EXCELLENT deal!!!
