How good is it? Would I be better getting the Sigma/Tamron or waiting for the Tokina 11-16mm to make its way to Pentax mount?

Can't give you much advice about how the DA12-24 compares to other lenses, but I've never regretted buying it and it's given me some of my favourite images.

It's my standard walk around lens, with my 50mm f1.4, and 50-200mm in my pocket. Completely displaced my Sigma 17-70mm MACRO.

It is fantastic from 4.5 down simply stunning at 7.1. Only wish it focused closer.

I agree with the other posts...great lens!

Thanks for the prompt replies folks - it certainly seems that the 12-24 is a fabulous lens. However since I posted I've been pondering, and decided that the macro lens I've been eyeing is a bigger priority right now - money means it's one or the other.

Easily my favorite and most used lens... never tried another super wide, but I'm very glad I bought this. Invaluable for landscapes or indoors where many people may get in the way like car shows as it allows you to get close to the subject where there will be less chance for a person to walk into the shot. There have been many situations where no other lens would do. Pricey, but worth it!

One of my favorites. The quality is excellent for any lens.

It is better than the Sigma, according to review done on this site. Search for the review of the Tokina 12-24mm, which is the same lens optically as the Pentax.

I've never regretted buying that DA12-24mm. The only possible downside as noted by another poster, is the lack of close focus. As I recall, it's something like 13 inches.

But still, out here in Colorado, I can do some very satisfying landscape and Denver urban images.

Probably the latter, if waiting up to an infinitely large number of years is okay with you.

Awesome lens, but even with the hood lens glare can be a problem occasionally.
I use it for landscapes and architecture. Highly recommended!
