I have been doing some shooting lately, though of a more freelance nature. Peeking into the forums here from time to time I see that folks are improving and throwing up some tremendous work here!!

Here's a shot from a recent gig for some voice actors who have re-created the Sherlock Holmes story "The Speckled Band" on CD. They need some promotional photos for the CD jacket.

I borrowed a 35 - 70 zoom, shot this at 40mm, F5.6 at 1/100. There's a large (4x6) silver reflector below the subjects and angled up to throw light onto their faces and clothing. Shot in matrix metering mode, manual focus. Converted to B&W, cropped, some dodging and burning and USM.

Thanks for looking, and see you around!

Greg, you did a wonderful job! The use of the reflector lit there faces well under the hats and added a softer look to what would have been very harsh shadows.

Hi Greg,

I like the smooth look to this shot. I wonder why you did not shoot in b&w to begin with. Is there some advantage to shooting in color first?

Stan

You've mastered the use of light in this one! Very nice light all around the frame, especially the faces and the clothing look really good - although Watson does not look quite like I'd expect ;-)

Hi Greg,

Very well done, great detail in the dark clothes by using the reflector. Perfect shot with a great mood and very stylish, great Pro job, I think that your client will be very happy.

With very kind regards,

Dirk

Hi Greg

A teriffic image!!!. Has good expression of the subject and all features are showing very well. Never used an umbrella I wonder what llight does it reflect? sun or a bulb in the umbrella. I know its a dumb question but I have lots of holes in my photogrphic education and feel its better to aknoledge than hide them...
