Nikon Questionnaire Survey

In choosing a wife, do you base your decision on looks? But, you chose your wife based on her spending habits... :-)

It's good to see Nikon asking these questions. They have been lacking with reaching out to their customers and in their customer service efforts.

A table with a bunch of suits sitting around it will not often hit the nail on the head.

My survey will be on the way soon. Thanks Dez....

Hey, the survey is prematurely over. It says it will survey until December 11, but when I hit the link, the website linked too states the survey is over. Would have
been nice to answer the questions, just to put my two cents in.....Cheers

Apparently Nikon is concerned whether their customers are wanting more pixel count (or not) in their future SLRs. I received a link to an official Nikon questionnaire survey and found the questions interesting. I recommend you take it if it shows up in your mailbox. We may help shape the next Dxx camera.

You check on a radio box with any one of these answers:

Strongly agree, Somewhat agree, Neither agree nor disagree, Somewhat disagree or Strongly disagree.

The questions:

Pixel count is a factor that I consider, but ultimately my purchase decision of a digital camera comes down to price.
There is no relation between pixel count and price. You can get higher pixel count camera cheaper than the D300s, especially in PS, but also in DSLR. 7D has more pixels, so the answer is:

No for the first part and no for the second.
Whenever a new digital camera with higher pixel count is introduced, I want to switch to that model.
Definitely no. I switch whe I feel like, not when a higher MP camera becomes awailable.
The higher the pixel count, the better the picture.
Not that simple, but basically yes if the noise issue is solved or disregarded. Higher MP means higher detail in an image and for me that's important.
Higher pixel count is preferable, but bigger file size is a problem.
It does not seem to be very clear what this means. Higher pixel count is preferable that's true (see above), but bigger file size is a problem in which way? What is the definition of"bigger"? Bigger than what?
Pixel count is a factor that I consider, but ultimately my purchase decision of a digital camera comes down to overall picture quality.
Yes, among one thing. Ergonomy is as important because I honestly believe every camera is good, especially if we talk about the price range of D300s.
When I buy a new digital camera, I want to buy a model with higher pixel count.
No, I want to buy a camera which fits my needs, not necessarily higher MP than the previous one.
Even after I buy a digital camera, I will probably be concerned over the pixel count of my camera.
No. I am happy as long as I am happy. The pixel count is a technical detail, it is in the specs which I know when I buy the camera. It si not changing afterwards and it is not something one have to get used to or learn how to handle. In other words, if I regret I bought a camera it won't be because of the pixel count.
I am happy with the pixel count of my current digital camera.
Yes, for now I am, but if I can get more in the next one I will be happier. More pixels means more detail and better possibilities for cropping. Of course, it should not result in higher noise, less DR or higher shutter delay. Improvements are welcome but not at the expense of what I already have.
It's a long survey but worth doing, especially when they talk about pixel count and whether we have an interest in FX cameras, later in the survey.
I am not sure it is worth doing it. It looks like some local survey, not very well structured and very professionally designed.

I did it for the forum for fun. It is not a global survey initiated by Nikon Japan, which is as far as I know the only one who is driving and making the development decisions.

Seriously....they must think that we're all idiotic simpletons.

Why not ask something about features and functionality as they matter as much and in many cases more so that the pixel count.
It is obviously not initiated by Nikon. I agree, it is kind of amateurish survey questions.

Ha ha.

I clicked the link in your second entry in this thread, and got the mail from Nikon.
But when I clicked the "Take the survey" I got a message that said:

Survey on Yamaha Digital Pianos or Keyvboards
The survey has finished.

Are we now to believe that Yamaha has bought Nikon and plan on using Expeed processors in their keyboards?
:)

Other way around, Nikon will be using Yamaha keyboards on their cameras. Surveys showed that's what people wanted.

Since I have both Nikon and Yamaha equipment I did some evaluation and came to the conclusion that Yamaha beats Nikon hands down:

It´s 16 bits, it has better high ISO, very little noise and much better tonality.
The output really doesn´t need any post processing.

However, there are drawbacks:

It has a lousy miniscule monochrome screen and no raw option, and it´s a studio device not fit for field use.

So, maybe they could learn form each other :)

I'm afraid that in my case the output from the Yamaha would need a lot of post processing!

and its working. Worth doing, they do have some write-in areas where you can make suggestions.

The one page I thought was really lame was where they asked for adjectives to describe the d300s. The list was obviously geared towards cool-pix users!

Also, there are questions regarding Capture NX etc.

here's the link, it says its available for five days

I just looked at the first two pages in your link but it seems I received the same one as well. Very professionally made. I decided to go through all the questions and answer. It took ages. I answered every question except the top two of the last page. I fet that was too personal.

I also noticed that the 16-85 and the 50/1.4G was missing from their list of lenses. Why is that?

I did not check the whole list, just noted that two of my three lenses were not there. Considering none of the two are released just recently or are too old to bother about I find it very odd that they were not listed.

all I want from Nikon is a reliable camera. And for tech-support to be there for me when things go wrong. Not asking a lot. So far, my D300 and D90 have been good to me.
