Having purchased the 7D recently i was out taking pictures with the mp-e. The camera fits very nice in your hand, compared to the 50D which is very good also but the 7D i think has a little bit more rounded grip.

The shutter button is also excellent for macro work where a smoothe action of pressing your finger down keeps everything in focus with narrow depth of field where 1 millimeter can ruin the shot at 3x and greater.
Just like to share some shots for inspiration :)

praying mantis at 3x with mpe

4x

fly

ant

I have also use it with some wildlife and the AF is really good :)

happy shooting.

Very nice. I have that lens and I know that getting shots such as those can be devilishly difficult. How did you get these? Hand-held/tripod? Flash? Aperture/shutter speed? Thanks.

Me too and yes very difficult to use but I enjoy it. Good for those cold winter months and doing some indoor work. I came across an article where this women freezes insects and then works with them. I lost that link. I bought some crickets at a pet store last winter but I'm going to see if I can find some more exotic ones on the net when the real cold weather hits.

I use the mt24ex in the manual flash power mode so that the picture is taken instantly. camera settings of f10 iso100 1/200s. I find it really is impossible to work with a tripod on insects with the mpe, so difficult to focus and get in close if they are on the ground.

I love the mp-e, i used to use the 60 macro with tubes, and though it is an experemly sharp lens, i used it the other day, nothing compares to the mp-e :)

I also use the MT24EX, but I'm not familiar with using it manual mode. Can you explain further why you do that and what advantage it gives? Thanks.

The ettl mode sends out an evaluative flash before the flash for the picture is fired, which means there is a short time between pressing the button and taking the picture. I find with moving insects and if you yourself are swaying back and forward, this small time lapse is enough for the insect to move or for the picture to be out of focus. I usually set the flash to manual mode with ratio selected and shoot at various flash powers depending on magnification. After a while you know what sort of flash power you need from each head to get the right exposure at a certain magnification.
