Potential move from Canon to Leica

I'm about to upgrade my current camera set which is a

Canon EOS 350 D XT with a few average lenses and a couple of nice fast and sharp Canon lenses.

About six months ago I bought a dlux-4 and it completely spoilt me with its low-light performance and handling and its crisp images (except high ISO).

Before buying this Dlux-4 I was contemplating a direct upgrade to a Canon EOS 5D mark II or a Canon EOS 1Ds mark III. After seeing how the Leica performs I'm wondering if it would be better to make a switch right now and take the hit? I'm thinking of an M9, but, given that its probably coming next summer (to be realistic) and then the bugs will surface, I'm sticking with an M8.2 with a nice f/2.0-2.8 summircron + a telephoto lens. I'm not sure there would be a difference in quality of pictures that would make it worth the switch. There's very little written about the M8.2 as well.

Please let me know what you think?

Just to chime in...first, the M9 is here now, and most orders will be caught up by Jan-Feb. But I can say I see new people getting their M9 every week. You can see my M9 image gallery at the link below.

The M8.2 is also fantastic if you do not mind a crop sensor or using IR filters on your lenses. An M8.2 and 24 Elmarit, 50 Lux and 90 Cron or Summarit would be one heck of a kit.

An M9 with a 35 cron, 50 lux and 90 cron or summarit is also a great kit but will cost you a bit more than a used M8.2. if buying new, go for the M9.

With the M9 you will get amazing IQ in a small, well built body but remember it is all manual focus, all prime lenses and center weighted metering only.

If you can live with that you will love an M.

I have an M8, M8.2 and M9 review at my site.

Thanks

Steve

If you shoot telephoto with much frequency, I suggest you try out a tele. M cameras are great but tele is not their strength as it is increasingly difficult to focus longer lenses. 75 and 90 are really the longest you would want to go, if that works for you, perfect!
