I just dug out my old sweet Kodak DC280 and gave it a check. Man it still works and it had not been used in years. Just put in some fresh batteries formatted a CF card and took pictures.

This was my first real working digital camera. After using it as my backup to a film Canon A1, on a trip to Santa Fe and the only good pictures were the ones taken with the Kodak DC280.

The camera is built like a battle tank.

Sadly, my 10 year old DC290 stopped working last year. With its telephoto and wide angle accessory lenses it gave me a 19 - 230 mm equivalent zoom range. Of course, it is superseded by current far cheaper, smaller, faster, and more versatile models. But in its day was a versatile and useful alternative to a load of SLR kit. All up cost was about AUD 1600 in 1999, so I have been reluctant to bin it, but just don't seem to get time to explore its malfunction.

My DC280 has a strange slow getting to start problem. You hold the little spring loaded on switch over to the right and at first nothing happens. Then you let it go and try again, sometimes two or three times then it fires up. Strange. It's just a keep sake I like looking at how things have changed in digital cameras.
