Canon T50 and Lens questions

I sold my D90 back in April, now I'm regretting it. I'm not wanting to buy something that "pro" again, though... I spoke with my mom about it, and apparently she had an old film SLR lying around complete with a couple of lenses. Now, you can guess my next question... :)

Will those old canon lenses work with a new canon camera? I'm looking for the Canon equivalent for the D40, or something great but not too expensive.

Right off the bat I found a Canon 50mm 1.8 FD attached to the camera in excellent condition.

Second lens I found was a 80-200mm "Kalimar", whatever that is.

She said she has 2 or 3 more lenses packed away in a box, and that they were all included with the Canon T50 when she purchased it back in the 80s.

If that wasn't descriptive enough, I can take some pictures of them later.

Oh, also, she has two attachable flashes. There's one attached currently called the "Promaster FA 1000", and there's another one (with aimable flash) packed away in a box somewhere.

Thanks guys :)

(Tried to edit my last post, but the option disappeared)

I guess I posted that too soon. I should have just searched to begin with. Apparently the lenses use an "FD" mount that was discontinued in 1990, and the only way they'd work on newer canon cameras is with an adapter... and from what I'm reading, I should stay away from those...

I guess I'm better off just going with a cheap D40, since they're being cleared out of stores due to them being discontinued now...

Right. When I went from Canon film SLR to DSLR I found that even the EF lenses I used in the 1990s did not match my expectations with digital, so they were all replaced.

Those FD mount lens won't work on a Canon digital camera. Sorry.

FYI, the best lens of the lot seems to be the Canon FD 50mm. The others aren't worth putting on a camera if you doing anything serious.

It's a shame... I was really hoping I could just buy a used Canon body from somewhere and have fun with all these lenses...

Thanks anyway, guys.

The Canon FD lens will work on the EOS film and digital cameras with an adapter. They work only in manual and the results are not good most of the time. The IQ is bad. I tried one on my 20D and quickly found out it wasn't worth the effort. Ansonn
