Edit, add quote from the review:

"Personally, the K-7 is the first Pentax DSLR that has made me sit up and take notice of what Pentax has to offer in digital. It’s not for everyone (what camera is?), but for those who "get it," it's a welcome alternative both to small cameras that are under-built and under-featured and large cameras that are overly heavy and over-priced."
Yep - I think he really "gets it".

Not a very deep review in terms of technical nerdery, but pretty balanced. A plus. It's a user's review. And he's dead right about the index in the manual.

"...the Pentax 35mm ƒ 2.8 DA Macro is not only one of Pentax’s best lenses, it's one of the best lenses available, period. There was practically no situation where I could get it to exhibit a serious flaw, even at maximum aperture."

I'm glad I have this lens - it is a very, very fine one indeed. :~ )

Who does not love the DA35? :)

I put mine back on the camera today after using old MF lenses for a couple of weeks. It made me realize why I like it so much from the first shot.

And after playing around with old MF glass I tried the DA35 in MF just for fun. Much to my surprise it is a much better MF lens than old MF glass.

Which is what makes it so nice and refreshing. There's already plenty of armchair technical nerdery going on in this forum, and DPR's review, which is almost the exact opposite of the above review, is upcoming also and will keep consumers of technical fodder happy.

I'm just glad to see that someone actually gets the "essence" of the camera, rather than it's specs.

I can't hide you, the rock cried out.

Excellent and very positive review by an experienced photographer (not a measurebator), and one who shoots with other brands too.

A very limited photographer ...

... such a good review of our flagship camera body (and some lenses too) and yet drawing such a low level of response.

Anyhow, here's a bump in case anyone missed it ...

Photozone almost convinced me not to buy the lens, but user reports and TOP review of DA 35 changed my mind. I'm looking forward using the lens (we have got a bad weather last few days).

It's a shame that more don't "get it".

This review doesn't contain too much pixelpeeping and there is no negative evaluation of features or picture quality, and because of that here is not much interest in such review. People can't say after that review that Pentax is dying :)

So, in the opinion of this reviewer, who happens to be an actual photographer, the K-7 is a pleasure to use, does everything exceedingly well and delivers great results when mounted with excellent Pentax lenses. Not very exciting or controversial, is it? Nothing to see here, move along.

Several write in the reader comments below the article how much they love the K-7 as a second camera.

The first one sounds like the equivalent of Sally Fields at the Oscars, "You really really like me!"
:- )

There are probably more than a few shooters of the other brands out there looking for the fit, feel and quality of the more compact and lighter K-7, And they've been itching to use the Ltd lenses without the hassle of an adapter that cuts out AF and auto metering.

For me, I place far more importance and value on a review by an experienced user than I ever do on those reviews provided by the pixel-peeking measurebators! Some of the tiny flaws they pick out in tandem with the strengths and the whole of the camera concept are part of the essence of any camera or lens! Humans like Ghandi, Churchill, Kennedy, Schwietzer et al had flaws and some of then serious but overall, they were awesome people...in a similar way cameras and lenses can be excellent and flaws bedamned! :-) (not the best mataphor but you know what I mean!) ;-)

Best regards
Leo

Ah yes, Photozone.

He did not like the 50-200 either. For what it is, I like that lens a lot too.

I think I will stick with SLRGear's lens reviews. I am not sure if they are better or worse, technically speaking, but they seem to reach conclusions that line up with my own. And if they see things like I do... Then they must be on to something. ;)

I guess a review that says what most actual users are saying, doesn't stir up emotions as much as the ones that gives it a beating in the conclusion for some minor detail that won't affect the quality of images very much.

But so far I have almost only seen very positive reviews of the K-7?
