Just curious.

I thought she was Avril Lavigne. However, she could not be the ad girl for Panasonic, as she promotes Canon PowerShot cameras. Is she a little bit like Avril though?

I don't know who Avril Lavigne is. Is she some sort of photography expert whose opinion about photographic equipment should be highly respected? Sort of like Ashton Kutcher, the Nikon expert.

She is Canadian, as is the OP, which explains a lot. She sings. The creative highlight of her oeuvre to date has been her deeply moving theme song for the Sponge-Bob Square Pants movie.

I do know who Avril Lavigne is and she is greatly overated and one of the stream of 'new things' on the music music machine that appear every week.

But more to the OP's point, can we have a link to see an image of this girl so we can play too?

Wouldn't it be great is the ESC key on PCs did something?

Please link this image. We want to see it too.

Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

Hate to stand up for Avril Lavigne but

a) She can be looked up on Google, no need to ask dpreview who she is (unless you take pride in public proclamations of ignorance)
b) She's been popular for 7 years now.
And that young woman has accomplished more in 7 years than most of the haters in this thread will have done in their entire life.

Just curious.

It's Ricardo Montalbán!

The legendary Ricardo Montalbán described the five stages of an actor's career as when the producers say:
  1. Who's Ricardo Montalbán?
  2. Get me Ricardo Montalbán!
  3. Get me a Ricardo Montalbán!
  4. Get me a young Ricardo Montalbán!
  5. Who's Ricardo Montalbán?
Apparently, Avril is at the third stage in her career, and advertising people are going "get me an Avril Lavigne". (Hopefully she's not at stage 4, yet).

The link is the main dpreview website
http://www.dpreview.com

However, sometimes when you open the website, it shows a different ad ( camera ads). I am referring to the Panasonic Lumix's latest GH-1 or G-1 camera advertisement. It is located in a vertical strip on the right side of the screen, when you open the website. You may to try a couple of time, as sometimes it is a different ad.

Avril Lavigne, a Canadian singer appears to be a young celebrity that selected to promote Canon's latest model of PowerShot cameras. yes, he is like Ashton Kutcher, another Holywood celebrity (actor) who represents Nikon Coolpix ad. Remember, in the past, Maria Sharapova, a famous Russian, young, tennis player was the previous celebrity utilized by Canon in their ad campaign ("Tennis balls following her home"). You can go to youtube and type in her name to look at the video ad.

I am sure the Lumix G-1 ad could not be Avril, as she is already working for Canon.

...or a Mary Astor, who apparently used the same joke in her 1971 autobiography - it may well be an old in-joke in movie circles.

From last year.....

.....But Wednesday night wasn’t an occasion I would go on the record for with unwavering support.

Granted, it was the opening night of her world tour — which includes 15 dates in Canada — but the so-billed Best Damn Tour wasn’t even the Somewhat OK Damn Tour; it was just plain disappointing. And with tickets in the range of $60, the 75-minute concert clocked in just shy of one dollar per minute. Methinks some parents are feeling the sting right about now.

Here’s a blow-by-blow account.

She is a pretty big name in pop music. Perhaps not quite an Alizee or Cheeky Girls (depending on which side of the channel you're on). Her debut album (according to wikipedia) sold over 18 million albums world wide, her second over 10 million and her third over 7 million.

Definitely looks more like Montalbán to me. ;)

It quite probably is.

After cycling around for 20 - 30 times on the homepage, I have yet to see a single camera ad.

Turning adblock back on...

I'm sure nSync and Back-ass boys sold millions of records too, but is their music noteworthy? No. Their and her songs will never be played on the radio 10 years from now as "classic pop".

Rarely is "pop" music something special. Popular music is very lightweight, snappy, and usually fits into a small mold of what it can "be". I've heard sony has developed software that can analyze a song and show which parts need to be changed to be a good "pop" song.

Avril is all "marketing". She called herself a "punk" singer but all her stuff even before she was becoming popular was plain "pop". She dressed "punky" but that's all. A marketing image.

I am sorry that you cannot seem to see the ad. I don't quite understand, as it shows up when I went to dpreview main website. It is an ad from Panasonic - For Life. A vertical strip on the right side of the website.

Never mind.... try this website and see if you can notice the girl with the white blouse. It shows up on the second frame of the screen, after you open the site

I hope you can see her this time.

Who said anything about being special? My only point is that I'd figure most people would know who she is. She's not some niche singer that you'd only know if you were in Canada. She gets a ton of air play on radio and has been in several big advertising campaigns. You might not like nSync or Backstreet Boys (neither do I) but we both still know who they are! :)

Milli Vanilli sold millions of records as well. Hardly a measure of success or talent. So much of today's music is manufactured.

I'm more impressed by the "accomplishments" of the typical nurse working third shift in a hospital.
