This Praying Mantis was out on a street in the undeveloped development above my house. It's wearing its summertime tan camouflage skin, to blend with the dead grass where it's usually found. In the Spring, it has a green skin. It appears to be shedding the skin on one side of its head. I was amazed how fast it was on its feet. Other insects that are its prey, wouldn't have a chance to outrun its long strides. I escorted it back into the grass, before I left.

Finally some nice bugs from the HX1.

Just wonder what happened with the right image sensor of the bug, why is it black?

The mantis may be shedding its skin and that eye is the first part. The contour of the black eye is the same as the one on the left side, so I don't think it's damaged. Maybe a mantis expert can explain what's happening to it. Thanks for the comment.

I have not seen one of these (live) in a long time. Thanks for the video! Point of reference, the body of the mantis is blown out. Did you have the metering on multi or centering? If you were in multi mode, then I suppose the dark background with the very light tan body of the mantis were too much for the cam to average out in bright sunlight.
