Unlike PS3 preorder, which i did impulse buy(preorder) w/o hesitation. Both S90 and G11 leave me such a mixed bag feeling that I rather see a review first before I'll make a decision one way or another eventhough I need a good P&S far more than a new console.

I just order mine. this sound like a Canon LX3 to me. Nothing could go wrong. I always preorder the camera I want. Coz you will never know the supply may short or not.

Why do they have to LIE and say the original MSRP was $100 higher?

i.e. $529 -> $429

It's really stupid and condescending. ANYONE who goes there has probably read about these new cameras on a real photo site and KNOWS the actual MSRP.

Can't they just be honest? There's no need for them to lie like that.

Have a Canon SD870IS... and nothing else right now.

I think you will be happy with your order, but this isn't Panasonic. Canon will make sure supplies are good and people get the cameras they want. So I don't think pre-ordering is really necessary.

I'm personally going to wait though. I try not buy anything on impulse. I still want to see what Panny shows in September, and want more info and reviews of the new Canons.

But so far I think I will end up replacing my 870 with an S90.

Actually I am not a Canon fans. But I did have hard time to order my 5D Mark II and I don't wanna let this happen again.

I do agree preorder for this item is not necessary. But I think I still have a chance to cancel order while the early review or the sample come out is bad.

I pre-ordered my G11 yesterday. It's best to get on the list, just in case the camera ends up with stellar reviews. You can always cancel the order if you're unhappy with the reviews.

I just checked out Amazon...
They have it "marked down" from $599 to $499. YOU SAVE $100.00 (17%) !!!!
Hmmmm, I'm going to have to disagree.

Yesterday I saw it listed on Amazon for $549, no markdown. So in a span of 24 hours, the price has gone up $50, but also marked down $100. Why not just list it at $999 and say pre-order now and get 50% off?
I agree with Paul

You guys might wanna wait until next week...

Nikon will be introducing their P6000 successor with a DX-format sensor.

I think what you saw for $549 is either a price for other camera (G10&G9), or affiliate.

That's what happen to me when I try to browse the net too fast, not to mention even if I type in Canon G11 in the amazon search box, the top result is G10. So it's most likely that's what you saw, since it's still show $499 w/ list price of $599.

Nope, I know what i saw. here's a screen shot of the current Amazon created MSRP as 599. When we all know it's 499. Unfortunately i don't have a screenshot of the 549. but i am 100% certain it was the G11 pre-order.

Why wait? You can cancel the order at anytime, better to lock in on a sure thing, rather than rumor.

I'm tempted to pre-order the S90 now, but I think I will wait. I want to see reviews, sample shots, and maybe a bit of a price drop. Canon releases seem to start with a higher price, come down a bit, and then go back up and stabilize. The G10 started at $499, worked its way down all the way to $400 and until the G11 rumors it seems to have been stable at somewhere around $470 or so.

i remember when i got my XSi/450D people were lining up waiting for this thing. at the time i decided to wait until one actually shows up at the local brick and mortar which was about a week after initial release. others that pre-ordered at Amazon were still waiting for weeks after.

Thanks for the heads up but I prefer Canon. In fact I just placed my order at Amazon.

That's easy to fix. If Amazon is late getting the camera you just cancel your order with them and buy it at B&H. No big deal. Besides, there is no brick and mortar store near me that carries the G11. The Wolf Camera Store at the local mall just closed . . . and they never carried the G9/G10 anyway. I'll take my chances with Amazon.
