"Today, SilkypixUK can reveal that the target date for Pro launch will be the 17th August 2009."
Let's hope it isn't delayed any further, the beta ran out on Aug 1 and it's annoying that we have to revert back to v.3. I suppose I could download v.4 beta for the interim period as it has some of Pro's new features, but sadly not the dodge (shadow/highlight) tool, which I found very useful.

There is a RC version of the 4.0 version (not the pro unfortunately) which should run until Sept 1. It does not have all the features of the pro version, but does at least support the K-7 RAW files.

Thanks for the info, I'm interested in silkypix, have tried the V3 trial, but have found the documentation a little thin. Also I don't know when they will release a Pro version for the mac...

perspective.
For me photography is a tool for capturing these insights, for reflection and
sharing.

The very latest version of 3.0 supports K-7 RAW PEFs too. However Richard is right in that the new Pro has an excellent dodging slider (miraculously retaining contrast I found) which is sorely missing in 3.0 or 4.0 Studio. I also found the resolution and general rendering of 4.0 Pro to be nicer as well.

C'mon Silkypix ... my credit card is getting grass growing on it!

Hi Richard,

I'm looking forward to being able to upgrade from DS3 to the pro version too, the dodge tool is great and the tastes in the development options are very useful, I'm surprised how much has gone into the ability to add titles and watermarks etc and to link that to a taste is brilliant. oh and the spotting tool is just great.

I do feel it's a tad unfair to complain that it's delayed though as it's clear that the release candidate was time limiited to enable users to give some feedback in the sense of beta testing and wasn't the for sale. I'm pleased and a bit surprised that the gap to the for sale version is so short, it suggests they didn't have to fix much

I don't think it's perfect but it's enough of an upgrade to splash the cash provided it's not too much more, hopefully the recently improving exchange rates will help.

I hope the engrish manual is improved too !

I just need to get the hang of the side by side functionality now !

Upgrade price is targeted at £50 for v3.0 UK users who upgrade within (I believe) 30 days from release, after that date I believe it's at 75% of the purchase price, which is not firm as yet (around £169 I believe) but I will confirm this with Silkypix UK.

All UK users should upgrade via Silkypix UK, no matter where they bought originally. US users upgrade via Shortcut.

English version users outside of the UK or USA, it's open season. I guess that if you originally bought from ISL (Japan) you can upgrade via either UK or US distributors, I know that John at Silkypix UK can help if you run into any activation code issues. I guess Shortcut can do the same.

Dutch, French or German versions are via the distributors for those countries, links are available from the ISL website:

Just a few questions...

It seems like for most of the functions outside of Pentax photolab I have to go Pro? Expecting that there is more maneuvrability with Silkypix dev studio3/4
If I want to dodge and burn I have to get pro?
If I want to stack layers etc... I have to go Pro?
If I want to filter etc. I have to go pro - skin smoothing?

I know I'm a little behind the times... but is there an upgrade price from version 2.0? I never upgraded, because 3 didn't seem to offer much for what I used it for. Some of the new features in 4 look good though.
