Tomorrow morning I will be able to see a solar eclipse (to 85%), if its not cloudy.

I will setup k10d with sigma 100-300mm f4 at 300mm f8 and take off the UV filter.

If you have some tips please share them, otherwise I'll just experiment away on my own :)

Thanks.

If you look through a view finder, you SHOULD shot through a solar filter. Otherwise, you risk serious eye injury. The eye damage pain is not always obvious, so you can have damage and not know until latter. A polarizer or neutral density filter will NOT give you adequate protection. The only time it is safe without is during totality. If you have live view, you could use that. However, I would be concerned about heating up the equipment if you focus on the sun for long periods. Using a telephoto is just like using a magnifying glass. Here is a link to photographing eclispes.

Thank you Carl.

Since I don't have live-view I will aim the lens in the general direction, take a photo and adjust position without looking through the view-finder.
Not much point risking irreversible eye damage just for fun!!!!

Thats a nice link, thanks for your time.

Don't even think about using your DSLR without a solar filter.
