I will be going to B&H tomorrow in Manhattan for the first time. Does anyone have any suggestions as to gadget-type accessories for the D90 that you came upon accidentally and now find extremely helpful? I'm referring to the not-so-typical items that people are always looking for. You know, those little novelty things that are cheap and look interesting and end up being extremely practical. Thanks for any ideas.

I can't really give any advice in that aspect but I can give some general B&H shopping advice. Bring comfortable shoes! You will seriously spend a lot more time than you can even imagine there and it's a BIG store. Also, photography (cameras and such) are upstairs. This way you don't go wandering around downstairs for an hour looking for cameras. (lighting, audio, video, etc are all downstairs). Also, check out the used section. They have some great deals on bags and such.

Hope this helped,
JC

B&H has their own parking on 34th (i think that's the street?) and they tell you it's only free if you're under and hour and over $100, but I've walked out of there after 4 hours with no trouble.

Their busiest day of the week in the store is Sunday, I've heard. Not a problem, really, since they're pretty efficient, but do allow sufficient time.

Suggested accessory: perhaps consider an inexpensive GGS LCD protector for about $5-$10 instead of using the Nikon-supplied LCD cover, though unfortunately, I don't think B&H carries the GGS.

Be aware there's a few entrances to the B&H building but only one is for B&H customers. There's a sign on the door indicating this. Once you're inside, you'll see an escalator to the second floor -- where the Nikon gear can be found.

The sales staff is pretty friendly and knowledgeable.

Dez had two great photos of the Nikon and sales areas:

Have fun!

My most used accessory (because it's attached to my D90) is Hakuba's hand strap/grip. It allows the camera to be held comfortably without strain (for hours if need be) and avoids neck straps getting in the way. When you're not shooting and the camera is just hanging down by your side, it requires no tight grip to be held securely, just the lightest pressure from a finger or two. Nikon makes one for several times the price but it's less comfortable and make it difficult to access buttons and dials near the top right of the camera.
