Yep--it's a shame, because it is otherwise one of Canon's finest
optics. It reminds me a bit of the Leica Noctilux: a very fine,
special-purpose lens. It wouldn't make sense to use a Noct at
anything but f1, just as it wouldn't make sense to use the 85/1.2L
stopped down. It's too big a chunk of glass to carry around
otherwise.
Consider the 135/2L: optics that are nearly the equal of the 85/1.2
without the other compromises. Yes, you loose those extra stops,
but you gain decent AF and a longer reach. It's also a more
affordable lens.
