OK, I know it's not quite an apples to apples comparison. However, I have been looking at the sample pictures and noise samples for the SX10IS, and they looked pretty good. So I went back to the DPReview of the Pro 1 and pulled up the noise samples and sample shots from it, and they don't look any better, and maybe not as good.

So, has anyone done a real world comparison of those two?

The SX10IS is bigger, but not noticeably heavier, it has a higher resolution and larger flip out screen and a hot shoe, and with a LensMate can use 58 mm filters.

I have a Pro 1 and the S5IS; and those two are fairly close, with the edge in IQ to the Pro 1 in good light and low ISO.

I answered my own question. I just went over to the Digital Camera Resource page and compared the same views from both cameras. Lighting was different, but the sharpness of detail was much better on the Pro 1.

I found the same thing over on Imaging Resource on the "house shot" (a picture of a poster) that is the same subject and lighting, and again, the Pro 1 is sharper, particularly in the corners.

The next question is why don't I see that big difference on the sample shots on DPReview?

Not exactly an even comparison. I used to own a Pro1 and sorry I got rid of it. I do however have several L glass lenses and you can't beat the clarity and contrast of L glass. Not to start an controversy but there is no comparison.

Well I have the pro1 and the sx1 so don't know if the comparison is the same. First of all I take raw so take that into consideration. I love the pro1 for macros and have the 500D addon lens. The pro has a better lens and more open aperture. The only reason I decided to upgrade was that I am 5 years older and need the IS, the pro1 is so slow after my DSLR and the zooming is far easier in the sx range, only needing one hand. Bought it for travelling as the zoom range is great. I waited for a pro2 but gave up waiting. So if you are young wait for the pro2. Good luck.

So did most all of the other ereview sites. I think that marked the Pro 1 as having some serious AF problems for most buyers.

I'm a little surprised this thread popped up again after 6 days.

I recently went back and looked at some shots I took with a Pro1 in Sedona, AZ about 15 months ago, and they are really beautiful. As the reviewers kep telling us, there is a lot more to this hobby than the number of megapixels, and all the "features" the newer cameras have.

Before I retired, the company I worked for used to hold sales training seminars, and one of the points was is it a "feature" or a "benefit". Too often, the "features" are not benefits.
