Last week I made a comment about my old Canon S400 that I pack on business trips dying and Mofongo enlightened me about a service advisory. I bought the S400 in 2003 and I don't really know how many clicks on it, but I thought what the heck, I'll see what they say. E-mailed them and they said send it in. They e-mailed me a prepaid shipping label (which nikon doesn't do) and two days after they received the camera they notified me they were through and had shipped my camera. Mofongo had said they did not have parts and replaced his with a newer model so I had been deciding which model I thought they might send me. That's where the disappointment came in as when I opened the box (shipped via next day back to me by the way) there was my repaired S400. Shucks, I was looking forward to a newer and better play toy.

Hey no complainers, you love the camera, remember? ;)

Hi Ral. Wow, that was quick service! Sure the newer SD1000 that I received has a few more MP, a larger screen and bigger movie mode but the S400 is a classic and probably has better image quality as the sensor is larger. Also the build quality of the S400 is second to none, the SD1000 feels like a toy compaired to it. You are fortunate to have it back repaired for free after all those years. I tell you, both Nikon and Canon have done wonderful jobs with repair service. Nikon also repaired my D70 for free out of warranty although I think I had to pay shipping...

Glad I was able to spot your post and steer you in the right direction...

Enjoy your S400 is a sweet little camera...

I agree it's a great little camera and has traveled many thousands of miles with me and served me well. I had more or less prepared myself for something different to come back to me and actually worried that they might send something that didn't have a viewfinder or some such crazy thing. Anyway, I've got the battery all charged back up and I'm ready to travel. I just have to find a customer out there somewhere that has a problem that needs attention. Is that selfish to wish one of our customers has a problem so I can travel and take some pictures while I'm out and about.

And thanks again for the heads up. Like you say, the little S400 is pretty amazing, same sensor basically as G3, larger than most compacts and real metal in the body.
