I have pretty much made up my mind to go for it, but I just wanted to check and see if there was any big bad uglies with that shutter count. It seems just fine to me, but I admittedly know next to nothing. It's being described as "as new" condition by somebody that reports taking exceptional care of their equipment. The price is $1100 (body only)

Sounds like a fair price. Most used D300 that have been well cared for and with 4000-8000 actuations have been going for $1050-$1200 recently.

I picked up a used D300 with just under 5000 clicks about two months ago for $1200 incl. shipping. My camera now has over 12,000 clicks and I am very pleased with it.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe the D300 shutter is rated at 150,000. So 7800 still leaves a lot of life left.

So in two more days I can officially start playing in this forum. I have a lot of studying/practicing to do....

Oh, and how about my first two questions I have for it. I want the vertical grip for it, what's it called so I can start shopping around for it? And also I need a bigger bag, my current one isn't big enough. I want a backpack for it, probably a lowepro. What is the size I would need for a D300 w/grip & 80-200 2.8 w/hood all put together in the center compartment? I have some shopping to do. Thank goodness my birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks.

Is it Thursday yet?

MB-D10, which costs about $260.

I love the vertical grip. MB-D10. Comes set for an EL3 battery, so you can add a second battery, or use the one in the camera (in either camera or grip). The grip also comes with a holder for AA batteries, which is the cheapest way to get the 8fps for general use.

If you want to spring for the el4 battery to put in the grip, it gets pretty expensive. Not only for the battery, but you have to add a BL3 battery cover/adaptor thingie AND a ridiculously expensive battery charger. (In a fit of spenditis, I finally bought all that, so I have the el4 working now, and I love it - but it was a way expensive thing to do for what you get).
