Hi Guys,
I am about to cut down a Pentax MG focusing screen to fit my K100D.

I could whip out its screen and check with calipers but trying to minimise handling it :)
has anyone got the K100D screen dimensions please ?
cheers
Pete

Thanks Dean,
No numbers in there :)
Looks like I will have to measure it !
cheers

If the K100 dimensions are the same as the K10, then see this post:

However, be warned that split-screens tend to change exposure drastically when moving between bright sunlight and the shadows. It works just fine indoors or in the shade, but over-exposes HORRIBLY in sunlight. I eventually removed the split-screen. I later tried another brand of split-screen (from J-finance, I think), but it has a similar negative impact on exposure in sunlight.

The happy ending is that the flash-holder still works great. I have subsequently modified it to hold an umbrella.

Thanks Dennis :)
I like how he recycled the hotshoe too !

I think the K10 is a different size screen. I'll pull it out tomorow and measure it

Thanks K10Dennis I see you are correct.
the dramatic variations are pretty disappointing
Was relieved to see the DA40 is unaffected

Not sure how much it will effect me.
the split collar focus is so good
I might just learn which lens needs what and adjust to it.
Even the shimmer disc works and brings back fond memories of the Spotmatic

Pete, that's a great DIY effort!

Please keep us posted about your exposure experiences.

It is a bit of a pitty, in particular because (unlike the K10D), the K100D is so consistent with exposure when using old lenses.

Too bad Pentax doesn't offer a split-screen themselves. If they did, cameras may have a menu entry to select the focus screen type. This might be used to compensate for exposure problems?
