I had the chance to go up the Tower at Salisbury on Sunday, hard work up the 332 steps but the view was worth it! http://www.salisburycathedral.org.uk/index.php
Hope you enjoy and please C & C.

A lot of these timbers are 750 years old.

Looking up into the spire

Some lovely old buildings from the top, The Wardrobe (Military Museum)

Salisbury Cathedral School

The main roof

We walked to the top of the square

  • you have excelled with this set:
  1. 1 was the hook;
  1. 5 ~ I don't get to see many panos like this. I think I'd wish to take this pic with me to my desert island if I wanted a reminder of English-ness. I iimagine you put in much work to this image. Well done!
  1. 8's the star of the show, for me - such interesting framing / composition / perspective, and the receding pattern made by the tiles' shadows. I keep returning to this one, & keep liking it afresh each time.
  1. 10 ~ last, but not least, a beautiful capture of light sculpting trees and architecture - with nicely balanced sky tone and tasteful amount of cloud. Very nice. If the image was mine, in post-processing, I'd have had a go at skewing the top left to the left, first having anchored bottom right, to see if the spire would appear more naturally vertical (switch on grid lines first before doing this!)
Cheers!

............THE HISTOGRAM OF LIFE.............

Some will say they like short posts

Others don't

Most are in the middle

another great set, which makes you want to see the place in person on the one hand and makes you feel you were already there on the other, all are lovely and I don't feel there is a distinct favourite. Did you do any noise reduction on the shots with 400 iso? they look very good.

be well and continue sharing your travels.

Thank you very much for your very positive comment, I thought I had straighened the tower enough but on reflection you are right, it does need a little more to the left, this is how the picture looked as it was taken.

Thank Dov, no I used no noise reduction, I tend to find it takes the detail away and I was happy with the result.
Off to Oregon next week so more travels coming soon:-)

Cathedral building epitomised and photgraphy
showing how, you have done an excellent job,
thanks Heather for showing.

Wonderful cathredral shots Heather. It's truly amazing how those wooden beams and supports hold up century after century in a climate known for dampness. I wonder if they do any maintenance on them? I managed to get to Stonehenge but missed Salisbury.

Very nice images. We visited the cathedral on a UK trip a few years ago. A very beautiful place. We were on a 31-day bus tour and didn't have time to get up the tower. Some interesting construction.

Nice shots as usual Heather. I was horrified when i went in last year that all the pews have been replaced by IKEA type horrible chairs.

In the area have you done Winchester which I think is one of England's most beautiful cathedrals or Romsey Abbey which has some great photo opportunities
