In ten days I shall once again be the organizers photographer during the international beach volleyball tournament in Stavanger, Norway. Only this time, it is the World Championships!

Therefore, I warmed up with the Norwegian Championships this weekend. Here is an image of one of the winners, Ingrid, who will take part in the World Championships. As usual, I used E-3 and 50-200.

Aloha Raymond,

Never shot volley ball.
So, I was a little curious.

1) Did you use the center AF?

2) Have you "tried" to use ALL AF points ... when you know the ball "might" be closest to you?

Thinking a stratagy of having a MY Mode with ALL AF points ... to quickly select a setting to use ALL AF points ... when you know the ball will come down closest to you. :) ... wondering if that would even work.

Please feel free to criticize, make suggestions, and edit any of my photos & re-post, to help show me 'the way'. * I am trying to Elevate the Level of my 'Snap Shots' :)

Love f2 Oly lens wide open ... 14-35mm f2, & a 50mm f2+1.4TC is my fav. combo on two 'IS' oly bodys.

Hi HG, I always use the centre point only and I am going for a sharp player, not a sharp ball. Of course, often I get no ball at all and not a sharp player either. Many throw aways here. Is this what you meant?

I wish to be there, Raymond. Beach volleyball is maybe the best sport to shoot, it is beautiful sport but very challenging for shooter and I like it most. This year is no WC in Prague because lack of sponsors (as on many other places) I enjoyed it very much last year, it has been voted as best in the year.

Altough going to Stavanger and back means for me driving 3000 km plus ferries and altough I came back from Norway just two weeks ago I will check my schedule and think about coming there - my favourite sport in my favourite country!

LOL,
Thank you for the TIP.

imho, No one ever remembers the throw aways. It's the Keepers that count.
And you have a lot of Great one's!

Love that shot ... by the way.
Great example of what the 50-200 can do!

Raymond, Thank you for the info ...
Find it interesting that you are using a +.7 during the day.
  • I do the "Exact" same thing ... whenever in A priority.
ESP + AF , or Center-weighted

Infact it seems like iso200 on the low end , and RAW for a LR Auto exp., to auto recover highlights seems to work like a charm for me.
(because I always try to be on the edge of the right of the Histogram)

During the Day with my e30 ... I never go below iso200 ...
(unless it is to drop my shutter so I can Flash at 1/250)
