I was photographing some cars at a classic car show today. If was very sunny, and when trying to photopgraph cars that were reflecting sunlight from their shiny chrome bumpers and windows, light purple/dark pink thin vertical lines were visible on the LCD display and EVF. These lines coincided with the very brighest parts of the subject. Fortunately, these lines are not present in any captured image taken when those vertical lines are present in the LCD or EVF. Has anyone experienced this at all? The camera is an S5700.

That´s the smear-effect which appears on all CCD-sensors when they are constantly exposed to light.

Should expain alittle more to you. But in my opinion it happens more often to Fuji cams in my experience. And there are other causes of this smear. FYI you might google search for the other causes.

Good luck,

Thanks, that explains it. I've since discovered this is also mentioned in the S5700 manual, on page 166:

Smear

A phenomenon specific to CCDs whereby white streaks appear on the image when there is a very strong light source, such as
the sun or reflected sunlight, in the photography screen.

...on my brother-in-law's s8100. Nearly told him to bring it back but some reading of posts here stopped me.
Interesting that you see it on the s5700 as I have never seen it on my s5600.
