Could the 49mm be a typo from Pentax? If you look at the specifications for the lens at the PentaxImaging website it clearly states 49mm filter size. However if you look in the "What's in the box"-tab on the same web page it says 52mm lens cap and 52mm hood. At least it is confusing...

Well, I consider CBA to be worse as a lens will last much longer then a camera. Fortunately I think CBA is harder to catch.

I think a certain amount of LBA is natural.

I don't think so; John Carlson specifically confirmed both the change in filter size and the non-change of optics in another thread. The 18-55 WR still uses 52mm, though.

You would think if the filter thread changed it would mean other changes. They upgraded the 18-55 to meet the 15 mp sensor res so I'm just hoping they may have done the same with the 50-200.

CBA is not nearly as bad as LBA. Cameras don't come out as often unless you keep more than one brand then you better be related to Bill Gates.
