Hi There,

After shooting outside for the whole afternoon today, I down-loaded the files from my D700 to my computer. When I connected the cable from D700 to my computer and turned the power switch from D700 to "ON", I didn't see the folder name (D700) shown on my computer as it always did. So I checked several things:

1. Replaced another two cables to confirm the connectivity, the transfer still failed. (All cables were functioning properly when I double checked the file transfer by another camera of mine - D300)
2. Replaced a fully charged battery into my D700 - Still didn't work

3. Swapped the CF bwtween D700 and D300 and confirmed it was not due to CF failure
4. Reset the computer, but the situation remained the same

It was the first time I faced this strange situation, I wonder if anyone of you had ever experienced the same problem. Your comments and suggestions are highly appreciated. Thanks!

I would suggest getting a card reader.

page 238 'connecting to a computer' (UK manual anyway.. but your's should have same heading.

Worth a look...... :)

I would start from the computer. For instance, check whether autorun is enabled; it also can be USB issue - verify you can connect other devices and they are recognized. Try using other USB port. Do you hear a "ding" when you are connecting your camera? Try other computer.
Anyway, I agree with all others recommending to use a card reader, though.

Thank you all for providing the alternative solutions, though the problem won't go away but I can at least get access to my files.

there is no problem.. (see my earlier post) you are expecting the camera to work with your PC in a way it has not been designed to work.. it will never pop up as a drive letter on your Pc, as previous models do/have.

read your manual on 'Connecting your camera to a PC' the information is there.

Others have said get a card reader.. good advice; but this does not mean your camera is faulty.
