I am considering buying a Metz Mecablitz 28 CS-2 Digital Slave Flash to use mounted on a Panasonic TZ5 camera.

The TZ5 does not allow for any manual setting of aperture or shutter speed.

As a result, will that slave flash work with the TZ5 or will the pair be incompatible?

I don't want to spend $ 120 and find out later.

I haven't tried the 28 CS2 or your particular camera, but I have used the 34 CS2 with the Oly C-700 in Program mode, and it worked quite well; with the preflash the Oly automatically adjusted the exposure for the flash, can't speak for how the TZ5 will work...suggest you try before buying as I did:

The biggest issue I see is IF your camera will compensate for the extra light output, if it only uses the initial meter reading, or realizes mid-shot there's more light than metered and cut off exposure earlier than metered.

To be honest, this is the only way to have an external flash on cameras that don't have hotshoes or flash sockets, and Metz is one of the best ones out there...you can probably find a cheap slave flash but odds are it won't be able to handle the preflash; that was my problem with the Olympus but the Metz CS2 flash handled it beautifully!

Going to the store and trying one out would be great except that I have no store in this area that carries this flash.

If I buy one, it'll have to be over the internet. That's why I'm hoping to hear from someone who is experienced with both the TZ and the Metz unit.

Thanks for all the advice.

I bought the flash to use with my TZ5 and it works great.

It's nice to have enough light in low light situations and to be able to take such photos at ISO 100.
