View from a Garden Bench: A New Gallery

Thanks for leaving the bench open for me Jim !
Bob

Hey Gang,

View from a Garden Bench is a new gallery of images from a shoot on
Tuesday morning with the E-10. http://www.pbase.com/sandman3/view
It has some of the same old stuff and some new stuff I've been
playing with. I did something radically different in posting these
to pbase....I resized them all to no greater than 800 pixels on the
long side, instead of posting the much larger higher resolution
size.

Looking forward to hearing from you on the images and on the
resize. As always comments, criticism, and feedback are
appreciated.

I enjoy your pictures and the E-10's capabilities. The resizing looks good. I especially like the view looking outward from on the porch at the bareskinned tree.

Jim, those are great shots. Is it safe to assume you like the E-10? Never mind, I know the answer!

MaryB,

I have never even heard of this place, but it sure looks interesting. I'm not that far from there, so I will plan a day trip to check it out. It sure sounds like "my kind of place.!"

Dave Stibbe,

Thanks for the comments. You know, you are the only one to mention that specific image. I was particularly pleased with the composition on that one, but you are the only one who mentioned it....thanks! It is really one of my favs from this series.

Thanks again for looking,

jim

PS: Trivia challenge: Do you know what kind of tree this is?

awesome photos of the bench...i really liked them all but this one is my favorite:

http://www.pbase.com/image/2388065

It would have been nice to have the complete leg in the forground but it is still very nice photo.

looks like the E10 has a very nice depth of field and a very low level of noise.

HG,

I do like the E-10, but I'm still not 100% satisfied with the images I am getting. Working now on the softness of the images. I'm sure I'll get there, with a little help from my friends! Thanks for looking and commenting.

I was looking at your gallery and those are quite amazing photos:

i think you should keep framing your photos...it really does a little something extra. I started doing framing on my photos as well and its much better.

Daniella,

Thanks for looking and thanks for your comments. I wish I had some more space on the leg of the bench in that one too! I think I was watching the top of the bench and lining up the shot to make that line straight and, in the process, chopped the leg off!

I am having fun shooting places like this very small garden. It is really challenging to try to convey the beauty and magic of the place with a camera. Shooting it from different angles, varying the amount of one element or another. It is fun, but really more challenging than it looks!

Thanks again for looking and commenting. I do cherish your photographic opinion.

Daniella,

What are you using to do your frames? I really like the frame of Mt. Shasta. Did you do this from scratch or do you have an action set for frames?

jim

Barbara B,

Thanks for the compliment! I sure appreciate it! As for the frames, they are done with an "action" I found somewhere called Mike's Frames. I do not remember where I got it, but I would be glad to e-mail it to you as an attachment. I'm still looking for another frame-maker. These of Mike's are very good, but I think something a little thinner might be more pleasing.

Let me know if you want this "action."

I throughly enjoyed your new gallery. Good variety, well composed.
I like the borders you have been including on your images. Is that
done in PS? If you wouldn't mind sharing with me "how to".

MaryB,

I just forgot! Sorry. I've had one of those days too, just back in from out of town and leaving again in the morning!

You are correct, it is a Crepe Myrtle. This is the way they look if you don't cut them back every year. I think the trunk is very pretty!

I will post some pics when I get to go to Vines. If you beat me there, you post some too, ok?

Mary, I'm glad it's Friday too.! TGIF!

Jim,

I really enjoy your series that you post here and this is another great one. I love the flower shots and the waterpump with the house in the background is real nice also...heck, there all nice...

I do prefer the resized photos for the web...full size is just an inconvienience for viewers to have to choose non scrollable sizes...

This size is easier on the bandswidth also for Pbase...

As far as the frames, I would probably go not so wide for myself but that's just me...

Your flower shots seem very sharp with the Mcon...where did you by it and can you get the $100 rebate with it?...Oly has a rebate for accessories...has to be from an official Oly dealer...

Bob

Jim,

Another fine gallery ! I know you ask for critiques , but really, do you
think anybody can "not" like your pictures ! LOL You won't believe
this , but I was at Lowe's today and I just wandered out into the
greenhouse. Man ! They got some nice flowers everywhere! I was
thinking about getting the camera out of the truck , but decided
I would be a major DORK. Besides , there were too many women
cruising around out there . It's an image you know ! LOL

Tim

Bob S,

Thanks for looking! I sure appreciate your comments and suggestions. I am looking for a thinner frame. If I can't find an action for one, I'll just have to make one up. Vol has a pretty neat one, but it still did not flip my switch! LOL!

I got my MCON for $89.00 from our pals over at B&H. They are just awesome! They always beat their expected shipping date and I've never gotten any run-around from them. This should quality for the rebate, which I plan to complete when I get back from vacation.

Hoping to get some killer shots while on vacation. We are spending a week at the beach along the Florida panhandle's sugary white sands. It is a beautiful place. We have an all-day deep sea fishing trip planned and a separate sunset daulphin sighting trip planned. Many of these will be good photo ops!

And you never know, I may just shoot a barn or two on the way down!

See ya when I get back,

jim
