Going back to the E-400...

Hi Brian!

I was only using the standard procedure when it comes to similar discussions here on DPR:

I was sure that you were sure about the thing I wanted you to be sure so I could feel sure about my statement! :-))

Regards
Haris
Hi Brian!

On the other hand, you were so sure that you could show the whole
difference by using the exactly same image until your "small theory"
backfired on you. :-)
I'm sure there's something lost in translation here... what makes you
so sure I was so sure? lol

Kind Regards

Brian

Have to agree, e400 is better than the newer cameras if image quality is your priority. Why? has fantastic rich colours and fantastic noise qualities. Alot of people described it as noisy but i never found that to be the case. Noise was there, sure but it was unobtrusive and didn't smudge any detail and of course no banding. all this makes for stunning prints. I'm interested to see if the 620 has got some of these qualities back.

please get your hands on an E-330 and compare.
Then see what you think.
I've never seen two different makes of sensor have the same colour
response, but I'll be glad to test them. I'll see what I can do about
either borrowing an E330 or getting someone else to test.
Of course they won't be exactly the same, but I think you'll find its colour response is closer to what people in this forum commonly refer to as "Kodak colour" than the more recent Panny sensored cameras. It's actually even more saturated in some ways.

This test deserves its own thread. I scored a seven. I don't have a calibrated monitor so I don't know whether that would have helped me more or not. Still I'd rather have gotten a zero. :)

E-300 - My camera takes great pics, but it's so ugly that portrait subjects run away shrieking. :(

E-330 - My camera transforms into a giant robot with lasers that destroy other cameras!

E-500 - My camera has the best colors, but noone talks about me anymore on dpreview :(

E-510 - My camera has IS so I can handhold at 1/10 at 300mm, so my cam is the best!

E-520 - They changed RGB value 51584 to 51583, so clearly my cam is better than the 510!

E-410 - I'm small and dainty, so I can only take macros. But they're the best macros!

E-3 - My camera is too complex to actually use, it just sits there and looks pretty.
E-1 - My camera takes pictures of God, nuff said.

E-620 - My camera is the best, even though they're still assembling it at the factory and I've never used it!

E-30 - My camera has an identity crisis; it never knows who it is. But it takes the best pics though!

I took it over a second time and got a perfect score! This try, I spent a little more time looking the colors over. Who needs a calibrated monitor! :-)

Now bad for aging eyes. I guess those thousands of comic book color guides I painted when I was youger have still kept my eyes sharp. Maybe Olympus should hire me to fine tune the color in their cameras. Or Panasonic to get their sensors right. LOL

Do I win a prize for this? How about a $5000.00 gift certificate towards Olympus products. What do you say Olympus?

The problem is, nobody can see a sensor's "colour response". All you'll ever be able to see is a JPEG engine's, or a RAW converter's, result in turning the sensor's "colour response" into RGB values according to a defined colour space.

Scored a 4, after a long day (which was crowned by the purchase of an E-30, though :-)

another one: Group of Mountains called "Sella".
Dolomiti: unbelievable mountains!
E-400, 40-150:

You don't need the tag to embed jpegs, just include the straight url :

http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/3509/p1010489bis.jpg

remove the ; at the end of the url to have the image displayed in-line.

Is that a house, or hotel halfway up the mountain? I'll bet they have quite a view every morning!

Thanks for sharing

Its name's "Rifugio Cavazza al Pisciadù", and it's managed by the Italian Alpine Club
