This is St. George's Church, built in 1908, near Clinton, Ohio USA. It's made from an unusual yellow brick with dark red mortar. It's closed and locked and is up for sale for USD199,000. Wanna buy a church? ;-)

EXIF intact - E-30, 1/640 @ f/8.0, ISO200, ZD 12-60mmSWD.

...the 4/3rds community can chip in and buy it! We can establish the First Church of Olympus. Katsushiro Takada will be our Diety of choice, as he was the designer of 4/3.

Am I going a bit overboard here? lol

OP - nice picture BTW

there would have to be pretty blue metallic rings around all circular objects as well
that would surely lure in the people!

Onr reason I took this photo was to see how AG worked in this situation, as I never used it before. I know this place well, and the morning light is when I knew I could get the long shadows caused by the bare trees, both on the ground and extending to the building itself.

I also shoot a Nikon D90, which as you may know has what is called "active D-lighting", which is Nikon-speak for auto gradation. When you use ADL, contrast and brightness are completely controlled by the camera.

I took this same shot with the D90 also, and to my eye, both it and the E-30 did a pretty good job. ADL might be a bit more sophisticated than Auto Gradation, but I think both work well in a high DR situation.

I also found that with both cameras, I had lots of control in PP as to how I could adjust those shadows, although the highlights were a bit tougher.

Thanks for the answer, it seems to have been very effective here. My first attempts with auto gradation have not been as convincing as in your picture (clearly it works but not as strongly as I expected) but I think I may have locked exposure on areas that were not the best suited to obtain the maximum effect.

I'll keep trying, it seems to be worth it :-)

The front is UGLY, which is why I ususally photograph the rear. They built an entrance enclosure probably to hold the heat inside but it doesn't match the building at all!
