Hi all What is the best way(fastest) to transfer the pictures on the mac, I tried just dragging folder onto hard drive but that seems very slow, thanks in advance for response

I have a card reader but it seemed very slow that way and I only had about 50 photos on it is there anyway to speed this up?? Thanks again

I bought UDMA cards(Sandisk) and a UDMA capable reader. Both from B&H.

Very fast. I wish I would have bought a firewire UDMA reader. Would have been faster. I just bought a MBP 15 inch. The faster the card the faster the transfer.

The answer depends on the model of Mac you have! If you can install an
eSata interface then this will be faster the Firewire 800, USB2, FW400 and USB1.

Without eSata Firewire 800 is the fastest. Buy a Lexar or Sandisk Firewire 800 Card Reader if you are limited to FW800.

All the FireWire readers I've ever seen are CompactFlash-only.

I'm not sure if this is a marketing thing ("Only pros would shell out for a FireWire reader, and they'll all use CompactFlash") or an engineering one ("It's easier to make a CompactFlash card look like an external disk").

It would be nice to have a multi-format FireWire reader, though, seeing as how my computer is USB 1.1 only (with no way to upgrade to USB 2.0), while my camera takes SD/SDHC.
