LCD red overcast

I just got my F707 back from Sony repair center(Bristol). They changed LBA to fix DSL. Looks like they fixed DSL. To test for DSL I was shooting sky and I've noticed that while half pressing shatter button the LCD(or EVF) shows red overcast band where the sky is. The same effect I have in the case of just sheet of white paper on grass background: red overcast vertical band in the middle of LCD for normal orientation of the camera and horizontal if camera is turned 90 degree.

Picture itself has no problem, just LCD/EVF

Did somebody noticed the same problem and what is the resolution?

Thanks
VB

I noticed the same thing when I first got my camera - the LCD shows vertical red lines when taking pictures of bright objects or scenes. My camera doesn't have DSL, and the red bands aren't on the final prints. I figured it was just a cheap LCD screen. I actually don't notice it now. shrug It doesn't hurt my ability to take pictures, so I figured it wasn't worth sending my camera away for half a month...

Adam,
I think you mean slight redish lines on LCD in the case of bright objects.

I have a BAND of deep red overcast and only while shutter button is half pressed.

Thanks,
VB

Adam,

half pressed.

Thanks,
VB
So it happens to you no matter what the brightness of the object you're photographing is? Mine only happens for bright objects, and it only appears when the shutter button is half-pressed. The band of red light is as wide as the object, and extends the entire distance of the LCD screen.

You gave very precise description of this defect.
So you have no problem with that? Sounds good.

But I’m really is mad about that because before I’ve sent camera to fix DSL I did not see that effect.

I received camera today, on the first shoot I noticed that red band. I called Sony and they told me to send camera back again for another repair. Two more weeks and what else they will break?
Well, three strikes and camera is out…

Yep, I have the same problem too. But it doesn't appear on the photos. I wonder if I should take it to Sony for a repair. Actually it is annoying, and it bothers me when I am composing while using manual mode because I depend on the LCD and view finder for color adjustments.

This "problem" has been raised before. It is a "normal" phenomena, red vertical overcast with high contrast (for example backlight) subject, only on the LCD/EVF, not on the picture.

It is also described in the manual (see troubleshooting section) as not being a problem, so it will not help sending it in for repair. Just have to live with it.

Thanks willemid for pointing this out. Yes, it's mentioned in the user manual on page 101. Now go back to sleep:-)

DO NOT SEND IT BACK.

As pointed out in another post here, it's perfectly normal and is described in the manual on page 101.

Loren,

I think there are two different effects

First one is when you are shooting very bright object some red vertical streaks appear on LCD, the intensity depends on angle, zoom and so on, but it does not depend if shutter button is half pressed or not. This one I believe is referred on page 101 as “smear phenomenon” and I can live with that. Just change the angle of the shoot and these streaks will disappear.

Second effect appears when you half press shatter button. LCD(EVF) shows not a streaks but a band of red overcast. The width of this band is the same as width of bright part of the frame. I don’t like the idea that this is acceptable…

Thanks,
VB

I have the second, the red band on bright shots - only when shutter is half-depressed. hasn't shown up on photos, but has been there from day one, when I first saw it I thought I had DLS, but no.
