18-250

I would say 1 cm is enough to be annoying. Clearly in any closeup shot (flowers, insects, etc) it will cause focus issues - even if using it stopped down. The lens focuses pretty close (1.5 feet) even at 250mm, so the DOF is thin.

Maybe also for wildlife & candid shots if the subject is withing ten feet or so. But, for scenery/landscapes & lots of travel type stuff if stopped down a little, it shouldn't be a problem.

How are your other lenses? Are you sure it's the lens & not the camera? There was a thread a while back on adjusting camera BF, but I don't recall which model - maybe the A-100. Seems like you had to peel off the sticker around the tripod mount screw slot & adjust three screws (I'm not suggesting you do this, but a camera repair place might not charge too much).

Question: What do you do all week?
Answer: Mon to Fri. Nothing, Sat & Sun I rest!

Well I took some landscape shot and it looks alright, so I guess you are right it will affect close range shot more. My other (Tamron 17-50) seems to be fine, took few hundred portrait on it and they look sharp.

Is it something that Sony will fix for a low cost?

I would contact Sony before sending it in to see what the charge would be. I'm guessing that it won't be cheap. Test your other lenses with the chart first though. You really need to be certain it is just this one lens.

In its default focus mode, the camera focuses on whatever is nearest it in the focus window. To make an accurate focus test, you must change the focus to spot center then focus there.

In it's default focus mode, the camera focuses on whatever gives it the most contrast. The chart is designed to provide the camera with most contrast in the center of the chart.
