Now what!

I went and bought an IBM microdrive for my pro90. The only instructions that came with it were for formatting it for use as a PCMCIA hard drive. Do I just stick the microdrive iin the camera and shoot? Do I format it (how)? Help would be appreciated. Rob

You should have a format option in the camera. I always format my media whether it is CF, SM or microdrive in the camera that will use it. When I transfer to my PC I use a card reader and only COPY the file from the media. I always let the camera erase the images that it wrote or format the media before filling it up again.

I use this same process if I am in the field and I am transfering to my Digital Wallett. I don't let the DW erase anything from the media.

This has worked very well and I have avoided having media problems because windows tried to write a recycle bin on the CF or SM cards that the camera just did not know what to do with.

I have found CF, SM and microdrive to be designed well enough to be taken out of the camera and put in a card reader for copying over to PC. Some folks leave the media in the camera and use a cable to transfer from the camera to the PC. This is too much trouble for me.

Good Luck

Rob,

It is not necessary to format IBM Microdrive - it comes formatted.

If you prefer - you could use formatting in the camera. From Setup menu choose tools -> format (p.93 from User Guide).

Also you don't need to take out from the camera your MD like CF cards. You will have always enough space. Also it is better not to risk droping your MD. Just use USB cable coming with the camera.

You may need spare battery only. When shooting without LCD it is possible to fill 1GB Microdrive + 256MB CF. However LCD is more convenient and you may need another battery.

Good luck!
