A few weeks ago, the day before leaving for a winter vacation, I had an LBA attack. Browsing the Craigslist looking for a good old 50mm, I came across a brand new D FA50mm Macro. The lens had just been posted a couple hours before at a very good price, and the owner was in Surrey, near where I had to go the next day to catch my flight. Obviously the planets were aligned and the LBA fever went up, I couldn't pass out that opportunity.

Back after 3 weeks of travel (vacation followed by a business trip back to back), I was finally able try this new piece of glass. Here the mandatory image:

I have one question for D FA50 owners: The manual notes that when focusing manually, one should not turn the focusing ring all the way to infinity or to the minimum focusing distance. Anyone know what the rationale is for this remark ?

That's just a technique to get a larger DOF - for any lens.

Roger hope you don't mind I have been waiting to compare the DFA 50 to the F50 for a while and this great shot of yours was just too similar for me to hold back. So I'm posting.

A bit hard to compare because of the light and obviously a different flower but interesting.

Tx Leonord, it totally didn't occur to me that it was what they met, but now that you mention it, it seems obvious.

Tx Dean, I like your image very much actually. The better light and contrast, certainly makes it look sharper. Also, this being said, yours was taken at f16 which is close to the optimal aperture of f8, as opposed to mine at f25, which is certainly not quite as sharp an aperture. I will have to experiment a bit more around the optimal aperture.

F25 and low light is asking a lot of any lens Roger, shots were so similar I couldn't help but post.
