I'd like to share some of the images taken during my visit to the Disney over the wknd. I've been there a few times before, but for the first time after getting in to photography. The images were taken with the Sigma 100-300 F4 and the Volna-9 for macro. My first ever attempts on macro. Also, surprisingly the Sigma was hand holdable.

Hope you leave a comment. Criticisms are TRULY welcome (The only way I know how to improve, please fire away, otherwise my time on uploading this would be a waste).

Images in reply under various categories.

Thank you.

Sorry, I did not see them until now. The meerkat is GREAT, very sharp and well exposed. The first bird photo is excellent as well. I personally feel the depth of field on the white flower shots is a bit narrow though. But, I think they are all nice.

I generally enjoyed your shots, particularly the meerkat and the second tiger shot. These are the best of the bunch. The details, composition are nice, with good focus and sharpness

In my opinion, the color saturation on a number of them is too strong for my liking, however, and is not as naturally looking as it could be.

In terms of the macros, the compositions are nice, but macro sharpness is lacking. Macros, in my opinion, are meant to be sharp, with fine detail present. I don't have personal experience or knowledge of the Volna as a macro lens.

Keep snapping, keep posting!

Thank you for your comments.

Getting the dof just right seems to be the toughest part of close-up (macro), shots. I have to work on that...I've been avoiding macros all this time, but I have to say i enjoyed taking them.

Thanks

Thank you for your comments. The macros definitely have to be tach sharp (acutualy when others post, I think of the same,...but, viewing through a bunch of mediocre photos of mine, these stood out the most :) :)...

Volna IMO has nice buttery smooth bokeh. The third to last and even the second to last shots under 'macro' shows that (is that good bokeh),... also when stopped down (anything below wide open/f2.8), the aperture goes from being a circle to a hexagon, so as in the last image of the highlight bokeh's take a hexagon shape.

I tried to be gentle as possible with the saturation, but I do have to watch out for that.

Thanks.

There are some excellent shots here, especially the tiger photos.
Great work!

I thought the gorilla was fabulous - almost B&W, but with that touch of red from the inside of the lips & some brown shading on the head... great! I also liked all the tiger shots - I think my favorite of those was the one looking up, with the whiskers all fluffed up (Is that my lunch you're holding up there???).

Penny and Marshy27, I really appreciate the comments. Other than the meerkat, it is the silverback gorilla which is my second favorite. Of all the shots I've taken the the ones I am considering hanging on the wall are the meerkat (looks much better at 100%, the jpeg has taken some magic out of it...then again the print will take some away too), and have to choose the best of the tiger shots (I have tons more). I am glad some others liked that gorilla shot as well. I enjoyed his expression (obviously) and the destauration except red channel. Also, I am starting to like the haziness on the top and the not so sharp nose as well, which were initially bothering me.

Penny, that shot of him looking up was taken exactly as you described :), the park people were feeding him from the top.

I also very much like that buttery bokeh of the volna-9, a russian M42 50/2.8 1:2 macro.
