G1: Remote Wireless Shutter Photography (pics)

thanks clint, but I have already seen that page, and just want to be sure it works fine with the FZ50 - I assume you are saying it does, as it is listed under compatible models.

the reason I am asking is, this part of the description threw me out:

"You can use the transmitter as an IR remote too. Simply switch on your camera's IR remote control function and you can control the shutter from up to a maximum of 10 meters away by infra-red technology."

to my knowledge, the FZ50 doesn't have an IR remote control function and I wondered if it had full functionality or not.

maybe I am just confusing myself here, or misreading the description at the Gadget Infinity site.

oh well, I have ordered the IR remote anyway...

but does anybody know how to "switch on your camera's IR remote control function" on the FZ50?

I can not say about the IR model since I have the radio remote model, I did not buy the IR because of its limitations (if something blocks the IR beam, it will not work and you have to be in front of the camera for it to work) the radio remote can work through walls and you can be behind, above or under the camera and it still works. The newer GI Cactus IR may work differently, but the older models would only work when you were in front and the beam was unblocked. My GI radio remote, just press the button half way to focus,, full press to fire and all camera settings work, multi-shots, long shutter speeds, everything.

and in regards to the autofocus, how does it work? is it a half press
like on the camera?

cheers,
Daniel
I have a GadgetInfinity radip remote and Gorillapod SLR Zoom for my
FZ50 and that combination works great, especially for taking night
photos. Looks like you've got apretty good kit for taking good
photos. Nice photos by the way. I would not hesitate in telling
anybody to get something from GadgetInfinity, hasn't failed me yet
and I've used my remote in temperatures around 20c below.

the IR remote also has autofucos and bulb mode, I guess the only differences are the IR vs radio aspects of the remotes.
mine shipped last friday, can't wait to check it out!

I made a thread over here http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1033&thread=31026969

I received my IR remote from Gadget Infinity, and I think it is faulty.

I am hoping it is not the remote port on my camera where the fault lies, but if anybody who ahs used the remote can please tell meif the red LED light on the receiver flashes when it is receiving?

my transmitter flashes, so it is fine, I am tryint to determine if the receiver is faulty, or the cord, or the camera.

cheers

I do not know about the IR remote, but the red dot on the radio remote flashes when your turn it on. This shows that it is turned on and working.

You may need to reverse the capacitor cable connecting the camera to the receiver. It should only work one way.

Clint,

Any chance of a little assistance here; I've followed the (simple enough) instructions and although the remote lights up when I press the button nothing happens at the other end, neither will it trip the shutter when plugged in directly.

Tried the cable both ways (one end plug is slightly different to the other and there's nothing in the instructions about this difference).
Any ideas, before I bin it (postage back to China would be more than the $25)?

Which Panasonic do you have? Mine is also being a bit flaky lately, and the cord has to be PUSHED HARD in both receptacles before it will work.

I just got my cactus remote in the mail, after sending back my IR remote to Gadget Infinity - they will refund me when they receive it I was told.

I opened it out of the box, set it all up, made sure same frequencies - the receiver was reading the transmitter, except the camera did not respond.

I was about to ask for some help, and after reading the above post about pushing it in the remote socket hard, my problem is now fixed!

if your IR remote is not responding, tru pushing it in really hard and it should hopefully fix ur problem too :)

the remote works great on my FZ50, happy with my purchase indeed.

Sorry Clint. Just got to read up on old threads ...
It's a G1.
Will try pushing in the connectors when I get back home. Still
wondering why these leads have different sockets at each end (?).
Thanks.

It's because the leads are dedicated. The lead with 3 insulators goes to the camera and the lead with 2 insulators goes to the IR devices. At least that's the way it works with my G1.

... very much Warren. There's no indication of this in the "manual"!
